Hasse Fröberg has a couple of "solo" albums out.  Both are worth checking out.

Can't wait for preorder....

Haha I'm waiting for three preorders...Live at Luna Park, DR, and Ayreon.

Mindflux

Just got an email from Radiant records that they'll have a FK preorder soon with special offers.

From Radiant:

The nefarious Mister Stolt and his Swedish cronies have done it again! Roine's been hard at work for the first part of the summer on this great new cd, which I'm sure all of the Flower Kings fans are going to really like. We're going to be selling them at Radiant and we'll start taking pre-orders pretty soon. The first 50 pre-orders will get a signed Flower Kings post card along with their cd. The release date is October 28.

Signed Post Card?!? UGH!!! NEAL/RADIANT!!! You're killing me with your pre-order specials... I'm waiting to see if Reingold Records will have anything special, as they sometimes do with signed discs/booklets/digipaks, but the post card might be nice, too!

Of course ordered the mediabook. I feel like I have to listen to this because that is one good concept.

I'm not even sure I know what a media book is.

Here's an interesting blip from their page about the Vinyl+CD package

QuoteBe aware that ALL customers outside of Europe pay a total of 50 US Dollars - We know it is steep, but shipping is insanely expensive shipping from Sweden, A bit of consolation may be that YES - you can get it signed. Just give us notice when you purchase.

anyone see that new interview with roine? pretty good read. and it also contains a nugget that should perhaps put the debate to rest: roine apparently considers The Flower King to be a The Flower Kings album.

Hmmm, interesting. I mean, I guess I consider it a TFK album in the same way that DT's Majesty Demos are a DT 'album', or are DT songs. They're like proto-DT, or in Roine's case, proto-TFK. But the band and press and reviewers and other such places have referred to their discography starting with BITWOA, so their newest album would be counted as number 12 (Hey, guess who else just released their 12th album? lol).

Why would that put the debate to rest?  This isn't like, "DT says that Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is one song, so therefore it is."  The Flower King was released as a Roine Stolt solo album, and it very much sounds like a solo album considering it is very guitar-driven, and good luck finding a TFK record as guitar-driven as it.

I wonder if it is a bad sign that those clips did absolutely nothing for me.  :(

Orbert

Roine considers it an album by The Flower Kings.  That's cool.  And there are some arguments to support that.

Unfortunately, fans generally do not have the same criteria as the artists themselves.

I noted the words "should" and "perhaps" in your statement, though.  This is just one of those things that will never be settled, because different people have different criteria.  There's a similar debate going on at the YesFans forums regarding the Anderson-Bruford-Wakeman-Howe album, whether or not it counts as a Yes album.  It is included in the Discography on the band's official site, which would seem to settle the debate (perhaps), but the fact is that it doesn't say Yes on the cover, and four former Yes members playing on the album doesn't make it a Yes album.

The Flower King is officially a Roine Stolt solo album.  To many people, that alone means that it is not a Flower Kings album.

The Flower King is officially a Roine Stolt solo album.  To many people, that alone means that it is not a Flower Kings album.

Conversely, while Porcupine Tree's debut album, On The Sunday Of Life, is largely a Steven Wilson solo album with a fake-band-name on it, people consider it the band's first album, while the first album to really feature the full band didn't occur until later. For some, something as superficial as having the band's name on the album is enough to count it as a part of the band's given discography, even though in the case of OTSOL, it wasn't even a band effort, just SW and some guests, but that's about it.

Then again, there's always personal discographies, which I tend to do myself for plenty of bands like TFK and PT and DT, where I include these debatable albums and EPs and such.

Nick

Short notice, but if anyone has any pressing questions for Roine post them up, as I'll be interviewing him tomorrow morning.

Orbert

Once and for all, what is the correct way to pronounce your first name?

:lol I will ask him that, but it will be before the interview. So I will say it as best I can however he tells me!

Orbert

That's a good plan.  But remember to report the results back here.

Nick

That's what I thought, but whenever I interview someone I check with them just to be sure.

That sample sounded exactly the way I expected it to sound  :tup     :corn

Roy-nuh.

That has been made clear on various occasions.

Yeah well unless he tells me personally, it's just hearsay.  :P

Nihil-Morari

BTW, I'm listening to The Rainmaker right now, kinda forgot about it because it get such bad reviews, but this really is a great album. I agree it lacks an I Am The Sun-calibre song, but I'm at City of Angels right now, and there's not a moment I haven't enjoyed.

Yeah I really dig it as well, very nice album! :tup

Yeah, Rainmaker and Space Revolver are the only two FK albums I own and I was surprised to see it generally regarded as one of the bottom tier albums, given that it was my early favorite of the two. As of now, I regard them as relatively equal.

Paradox Hotel, definitely!

So I'm listening on Spotify right now.

I like it a lot, particularly the three song run of Lucy Had a Dream, Bavarian Skies, and Self-Consuming.

It is reaaally looooong though, and a lot to take in on one listen.

Heh, it's not even the longest of their 4 full double-albums! Wait til you get to Unfold The Future - it STARTS with a 31 minute epic! :tup

PH is great, though, and while it took me years to actually 'get it' (as in, have it click with me), it was worth the wait. The song-writing is top-notch and each piece, while unique from those around it, works with the whole album to create a magnificent total work.

Nick

My interview got pushed back a week, but I just finished it up, and can Roine talk! I was afraid I had too few questions prepared, but not the case. Also, there will be a fun drinking game with this one, and it won't be for what I say for once!

Have to leave now to get some things done and visit the dentist, but hope to have this available for you guys late this afternoon.

nikatapi

Hey guys, last Friday i did an interview with Roine Stolt, he's a great guy and very interesting to talk to.
You can read the interview here if you want https://www.rocking.gr/interviews/en/The-Flower-Kings-interview-Roine-Stolt/17634/

Orbert

I feel like I'm the only guy here who didn't get to interview Roine Stolt.  :(
