Did I really just see 2 lists that didn't have Rust in Piece as a Top 5 Megadeth album? I'm speechless.

You can add me.   I think RIP is by FAR the single most overrated Megadeth album (although CtE is right up there as well).

To tell you the truth, I used to absolutely LOVE Megadeth, but when RIP first came out I found it very disappointing (Holy Wars is the greatest song Dave ever wrote, and could be in the top 5 greatest metal songs of all time...but the album as a whole is very hit and miss to me).    The first three albums are all superior to both RIP and CtE (which was terrible beyond 2 or 3 tracks).    I just lost interest in Megadeth after that.

I heard a bit of Youthanasia and thought it was a big improvement over CtE.     Cryptic Writings came out while I was working in a record store, and as it played on the in store, it really grew on me....so I really like that one (even though there were one or two duds).

I havn't heard the last few albums, but I will say that I never got the hate for The World Needs a Hero.   I heard "1000 Times Goodbye" on internet radio, and it really struck a chord with me.  (I was in a really bad relationship at the time)  I picked up the album and I liked it better than *anything* since RIP.    I don't know why I didn't pick up any album since then.   Maybe I need to do some catch up.

My top 5 based on the albums I've heard:

1. So Far So Good, So What
2. Killing Is My Business...and Business is Good
3. Peace Sells...But Who's Buying
4. The World Needs a Hero
5. Cryptic Writings

EDIT:   It seems weird.   TWNAH was 12 years ago...doesn't seem that long.   In that time, Dave's done 5 albums I've never heard.   I should probably at least pick up The System Has Failed and pick up where I left off.

Scorpion

Revised rankings!

I hadn't listened to Risk in full in several years so I listened to both the Remaster and original last night.  I usually only listen to the originals of Insomnia, Prince of Darkness, Breadline, I'll Be There, Ecstasy, and both Times. Well, those are still the best songs, but the others aren't TOO bad. The Doctor is Calling is OK, while Wanderlust, which sounds like a Bon Jovi song is kinda meh, and Seven isn't too good at all. The only good change Dave made for the remaster was extending I'll Be There. I always liked the "I see the light in you" part at the end and I'm glad it's much more present in the mix. Not sure why he added that fart noise before Breadline though. Cutting off the intro Insomnia was weird too as it was pretty cool. Crush 'Em. Um, well, back in the day I liked it, but I was a huge wrestling and Goldberg fan. Today it's pretty damn lame. As a whole, Risk is pretty good, but not something I'd listen to all the time, besides my select favorites from the album.

Rankings? Maybe next time.

So, the singer from Disturbed is going to be co-writing and doing guest vocals on one of the songs from the new album. Can't say I'm excited at all.

Zook

He's a great singer, what's the beef?

Ultimetalhead

Aside from the fact that he's actually a terrible singer, nothing I guess.

Zook

And Mustaine is a great singer?

Never said that, but I'd rather have one subpar singer on an album than two.  :P Besides, Mustaine's vocals suit Megadeth well. Hell, for what it's worth, Disturbed's vocals fit their overall shittiness quite well. The problem is I don't see Disturbed vocals fitting very well with Megadeth at all.

I know, kinda senseless post, but I just wanted to say that Cryptic Writings is an awesome album. I love every song except for Sin, and maybe even that one will grow on me even more.
CW is now #2 on my Megadeth list behind RIP  :metal

Sin is awesome. Can't decide though which one is better, it or more stripped-down demo Evil That's Within.

CW is my number two also, so great  :tup.

wolfking

I like Disturbed and Draiman, great singer, should be good.

This is a silly statement.  Plus how can you say it's not going to work when you have no idea what the song sounds like?

The King in Crimson

Because Disturbed lol ;)

this

however... Draiman has a very distinctive voice.. he sings one note and I hear nothing but Disturbed...
Here's an example: new Device album ("Dance In The Rain" on Super Collider.)

Well I have to say though, this is not the best example as Device's sound is very similar to Disturbed... that's probably why they wanted Draiman on board... you know... taking advantage of the hiatus Disturbed have been taking....

But still... I have reservations....

And....  Mustaine is a great singer....

Ultimetalhead

I guess I take more concern with the idea that Draiman is writing, because Disturbed is some of the most generic shit I've ever heard (They're basically the AC/DC of nu-metal if you ask me), but maybe being around a band that can actually write a good song will spur him into contributing something decent. I hold out very little hope though.

Good comparison.

Mladen

I had no idea they were that good, I better check them out.  ;D

Buddyhunter1

Honestly, the only problem I have with Disturbed (and it's a pretty huge one), is that if you've heard one Distrubed song, you've basically heard them all.

Cool artwork, although I expected something less predictable. Song seems to be pretty good  :tup

Well this is pretty cool.

Thanks for posting that, the artwork is awesome imo  :metal Song sounds sick as well, can't wait to hear the album.

wolfking

Hmm...don't really like the cover to be honest, and the clip didn't seem anything special.  We'll see.

wolfking

Gonna do a survivor, possibly Sabbath or Megadeth, please go and vote.

D or drop D tuning!

King Nothing?

Well, it sounded good. But where's Vic? Is he in the cover at all?

aprilethereal

You can see Vic's face in the middle of the circle if you look closely.

The King Nothing reference immediately stood out for me as well ;D

As far as I know they already played the whole CTE anniversary tour in D, so we could have expected it. I think there were some Ds in the studio videos too.

Ultimetalhead

Song sounded pretty cool. I wish it was more than a 30 second snippet though.

Mladen

Wow, what a colorful cover, I'm really enjoying it. The clip sounded decent.

Megadeth survivor starting tonight, get ready.
