It's been a long time since I listened to anything except the first 2... but here it is anyways:
Rust in Peace

<significant quality drop>

Countdown to Extinction

<not as significant quality drop>

Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?
Youthanasia
United Abominations
Killing is my Business... And Business is Good!

<quality drop>

Endgame
Risk
Cryptic Writings

<quality drop>

The System Has Failed
So Far, So Good... So What!
The World Needs a Hero

Mechanix1911

1. Rust in Peace
2. Peace Sells... But who's buying
3. Countdown to Extinction
4. Youthanasia
5. KIMB
6. United Abominations
7. System has failed
8. Cryptic Writings
9. Endgame
10. So far so good so what
11. Risk
12. The world needs a hero

Ravenheart

I'll give a shot at ranking them:

Rust In Peace
Countdown to Extinction
Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?
So Far... So Good... So What!
The System Has Failed
Endgame
Youthanasia
United Abominations
Killing is My Business... And Business is Good!
The World Needs A Hero
Cryptic Writings
Risk

Something like that. I think the only legitimately bad album Megadeth have ever released is Risk. Everything else ranges from gold to really good, in my opinion.

Birch Boy

I'll only rank the ones I'm familiar enough with.

1. Rust In Peace
2. Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?
3. Countdown To Extinction
4. Endgame
5. Youthanasia
6. So Far, So Good... So What!
7. The System Has Failed
8. Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!
9. The World Needs A Hero
10. Hidden Treasures

1000 Times Goodbye   :metal   I know the lyrics to this tune are rather frivolous, but holy shit I can't get this tune out of my head!!

LCArenas

WE'RE NOT READY TO SEE YOU YET :metal
99 WAYS TO DIE!!!!
YEAH!!!!
99!!!
99!!!
99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9!
99!!!!!!!

One of the best songs on HT (Doesn't compete at all with Angry Again, tho)

Ultimetalhead

99 Ways to Die slays everything else on Hidden Treasures.

LCArenas

I didn't remember how a good song "Tears in a Vial" is, hadn't listened to it in a while. Sounds like Cryptic Writings, but a lot better :D

While this is understandable I still think Angry Again is the best them. 99WtD gets a very well deserved second place IMO

ClairvoyantCat

I actually like Breakpoint the most... nice and raw, and the chorus is awesome, and then the solos are some of the best from Megadeth

Overall, I don't think there is a bad track on the entire CD.  But I definitely rank the originals over the covers.  I rank them as follows:

1.  Angry Again:  Top notch song.  It's a shame they can never really seem to get it to sound right in a live setting.  IMO, Dave needs to play it the way it is played on the studio version and not monkey with it.
2.  99 Ways To Die:  VERY solid second place.
3.  Diadems:  Very cool song.  I just love the chord progression in this.  I wish I knew music theory to be able to understand what it is musically that makes it so cool.
4.  Go To Hell:  Do Mormons describe this song as "Go To Heck?"  I've always wondered about that.
5.  Break Point:  Also very good.  This song just has a neat and different energy to it.  There is an interesting feeling of motion throughout.
6.  Paranoid:  This probably tops out the covers for me.  The original was already a solid tune.  It doesn't call for an overly dynamic singer, so Mustaine's vocals are fine.  And I like the humor they threw in at the end.

I'm not really fond of Problems or No More Mr. Nice Guy.  They're okay, but I could easily do without them.

I generally agree with you. If Hidden Treasures is ever re released, it should have also One Thing from the CW era. In many ways it's better than most songs of CW and it's at the same level of Angry Again.
90's Megadeth had awesome guitar riffs, distortion, production levels and song writing.

Just the way Dave Mustaine sings 99 Ways to Die... Godly.  :heart

TAC

I got Hidden Treasures when it came out. Though it's short, it is very solid.

But covering No More Mr. Nice Guy and Paranoid are complete wastes of time. Sure NMMNG tied into Shocker, but even Alice's mid/late 80's band had already done great metal interpretations of his classic tracks.
You just cannot do much with those songs. If Megadeth was going to cover Alice and Sabbath, I'd prefer something like Halo Of Flies and Megalomania.

Ultimetalhead

I've made a "bootleg" disc of Hidden Treasures and a bunch of other loose ends. I call it Hidden Treasures II.

1. No More Mr. Nice Guy
2. Breakpoint
3. Go to Hell
4. Angry Again
5. 99 Ways to Die
6. Paranoid
7. Diadems
8. Problems
9. These Boots (Alternate version from The Dudes soundtrack)
10. My Creation
11. Crown of Thorns
12. New World Order (Amazing song)
13. Millennium of the Blind
14. Strange Ways
15. Absolution
16. One Thing
17. School's Out
18. Duke Nukem Theme
19. Kill the King
20. Coming Home

Still fits on a single CD. The only thing missing is Never Say Die, but I don't really care for that cover anyway.

Crown of Thorns

Never heard that song before.

I see what you did there.  I think?  Crown of Worms, right?

Ultimetalhead

Weird. I don't mess up song titles very often. Oh well.

Too much fappage.

Birch Boy

"Crown of Thorns" is actually one of my stepbrother's band's old songs. And a kickass one at that. :metal

moffatt

I really like The Right to go Insane from Endgame. Guitar work is really cool and Dave's voice is killer.

I watched a clip, and I wasn't crazy about how this looked. Is there a CD only version?

A lot of the comments are accusing him of falling off the wagon, and before I even read the comments, I noticed that he didn't look 'normal.'

MykeHavoc

 :lol

Jesus christ, he looks awful!

LCArenas

Am I the only one that thinks he's unintentionally being a little Tommy Wiseau-ish in this video?

"and we had deposited eh a former girlfriend in eh in the front lawn of eh apartment building that she and i was sharing an apartment eh i did not hit her i did not"

:lol The camera man must have been like "This guy be TRIPPIN' BALLS!"

I have come to the conclusion that the 2nd guitar solo in Holy Wars...The Punishment Due is indeed superior than the one  in Tornado of Souls.

Suprisingly, I agree. I've never liked Tornado of Souls as a whole, either.

How? The second Holy Wars solo is just a mindless Mustaine shredfest which, although good, cannot compare to the fantastically constructed melodic and metal Friedman solo in Tornado of Souls.
