I saw an ad for a new Sigur Rós album so I'm just checking it out, and looking over at allmusic.com to see if they have released anything in the past five years.

They've released quite a few albums, but Allmusic doesn't even bother rating them anymore? Has their popularity declined so dramatically?

The last 'real' Sigur Rós album was in 2013 and the band feels kinda dead at this point considering there's only 2 (?) members left. Like the new release is an orchestral thing they did in 2002 and before that I know they put out some ambient thing but it's been a long time since a 'proper' album release.

Decided to dive into Mono over the last few days. Not even entirely sure where that came from.

I do know actually, I relistened to Hymn to the Immortal Wind, which led me to spinning their live album Holy Ground (feat. The Wordless Music Orchestra). I'm a sucker for orchestral accompaniment to my music, so this was right up my alley. This has prompted a play through of their discography 

As far as instrumental post-rock goes, this is perfect for my tastes. I'd checked out the odd album, and a few songs previously but gonna try to play through all their albums over the next few days.

One final thing, one of their band profile pics, from Last.fm, is one of the most badass band pictures I've ever seen!!

Bought Do Make Say Think's entire discography recently. Great band. My favorite album is Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn and my favorite song is Hooray! Hooray! Hooray! Love the electronic sounds.

I need to pick this album up.  Checked it out on bandcamp to see what it was all about, and I was really impressed.  Need to listen on a good set of speakers, I think.

Listening now and it certainly is a palate cleanser after PetroDragonic. I've started trying to do yoga in the mornings (if I have the damned time) and this is a perfect album to accompany such activities.

Being that this thread is 13 years old now how did the post-rock bands age for you? Personally I'm still a fan of the genre but a lot of bands I initially fell in love with like God Is An Astronaut didn't age that well. It's a mix of the songwriting and the sound design that seems very outdated.

GY!BE and Sigur Rós are still among my all time favorites bands period. GYBE would be in my top5, Sigur Rós probably in my top15-20 or so. Still enjoy Mogwai a fair bit, they are lower down but I still check out new albums and I enjoy their stuff quite a lot. You also have some legacy bands like Slint or Talk Talk that I hold very close to my heart, but because you only got a few albums from those and they haven't been active in decades, it's not as high up on the list.

But even as a huge fan of the band I must say that a lot of it just passes through one ear and out the other. There's a lot of bands I remember being quite hyped about a decade ago that I don't really re-visit these days.

I'd say most stuff has aged for me pretty well. Mogwai are a band that had the opposite impact for me - I never really cared that much for them back in the day (thought they were just kind of basic), but I saw them live a couple of years ago and they blew me away.

It's a style that I've generally found sounds much more interesting on paper than in execution.  There are various groups/albums/songs I like, but I really have to be in the mood to explore it, as there is a lot of dull meandering for my tastes on many albums.
