The really quiet "Suck it, bitch" at the very end of "Oklahoma Girl" is almost funnier than the rest of the song.

CountVoorhees

No, that's Sex Panther, which is more tolerable than Steel Panther 60% of the time all the time.

Jakartabassplayer

Hair on her nipples, zits on her box, in Oklahoma City she'd be considered a fox.

And my personal favorite...(NSFW)

Awesome band. Take the joke lyrics away and it holds up.
Community Property is the first time a song made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it.

Chino

New album October 18th.       :metal :metal :metal

MasterShakezula

Are they anything like Pantera?

Dark Castle

Not at all.  Think of 80's glam but with balls.  Don't they have a new record coming out soon?

Not in the least. YouTube 'community property' or 'fat girl' (the live versions) . You're in for a treat.

So true. The camping trip where we disovered them was the funniest shit ever.  Listened to the album over and over, laughing our asses off.

October 18th. No real news on it yet other than "IT'S CUMMINGGG!!!!!!"

Steel Panther's Facebook is fucking hysterical. Their updates always make me crack up.

jjrock88

Their debut is one of my most played discs of the last couple of years.

Chino

If you can get past the joke lyrics (which I still think are amazing), they are a seriously kick ass band. They rock so fucking hard.

As a fan of 80s hair metal (hey I was there, and had the hair!) I enjoy playing "spot the riff" or melody in the solos. Quality players though.

Yep. Since they're half parody band, I don't think they try very hide to obscure their references. Eatin' Ain't Cheatin' is blatantly just Unchained, and that's why I like it.
I don't mind the lyrics. Many 80s bands had these types of lyrics anyway, they're just ramping it up to excessive and hilarious levels, but beneath that they're great musicians with enjoyable songs.

I can't wait for the new album. One of my anticipated albums of the year, in fact.

Chino

Other than DT's new record, this is the only other album in 2011 that I can honestlynsay I've gotten excited about.

El Barto

The Behind the Music special was great.  I really despise that style of music, but they're pretty damned funny and original.

orcus116

"Turn Out The Lights" is a brilliant song.

Dark Castle

New album is out for those who care, it's really fucking good.

Here's the link on Spotify, I'd recommend getting it, they've outdone themselves.

BlobVanDam

I wouldn't quite say they've outdone themselves, as I still prefer the first album overall, but the new album is definitely almost as good. It just has a couple more clunkers for me. But I've been listening to it non-stop.

It feels like their inspiration is slightly less blatant on this album. I say slightly, because the album even kicks off with a Judas Priest copy, and you can still pick out some obvious influences, but the whole album feels a bit more unified with Steel Panther's heavy style, and I like that.

Musically the new album is on par with the first album. Lots of great riffs and layered guitar harmonies, and the vocals are great. I find the lyrics to be a bit less creative this time though. Not that they were anything close to poets, but some of the lines feel a bit lazier and padded (see "If You Really, Really Love Me").

But all Steel Panther fans (all 2 of them on this forum) should definitely get this album. You won't be disappointed!

wkiml

Never heard them until last night while driving home ..Local radio station played the edited version of "17 Girls in a Row"..while it brought back memories of the 80's its not something I could listen too alot..the entire 80's hair metal scene was overdone in the 80's no need to bring it back

BlobVanDam

I don't know how you would even edit that song. Every single line of the song is about banging chicks, and none of them are remotely subtle. :lol
And I'm so glad this kind of music is making a comeback with some of these new bands. Better than the vast majority of other shit that passes for "rock" these days.

jjrock88

Been listening to the first disc constantly since its release in 2009.  Was pumped for the new one; upon first listen, I think its pretty good but not in the same boat as the first.  This might change, but my initial opinions ususally stick.  Agree with Blob, the lyrics dont seem quite as creative.  Songs are still very catchy overall though.

King Postwhore

orcus116

I gotta listen to the rest but after like 3 tracks I can't say I enjoy the lyrics. The ones are the first were definitely crude but had some clever wordplay or just some that was just straight up funny. They're almost like, I dunno, blurting out swears and toilet humor at a speed that would make even a 14 year old boy's head spin.
