This thread is designed more as a way to assemble to facts/speculate about the upcoming tour.
This is not meant as an "I wish/hope/want them to play X song."

Let's try to put our brains together and come up with some solid speculation. Even if it's a longshot. Also, explain yourselves. The more discussion we have, the funner speculation can be.

To start, I think we can rule out the obvious tracks: SDV, TBOT, and pretty much anything off of WDADU.

The lingering question for me is how will they adapt their setlist to suit the new drummer? I get the impression that this tour will feature a lot of classic-era DT songs, so that way the band can say "See, this drummer can play Mike's old stuff. And we're still the same ol' DT!"

I'm guessing the return of full-song Metropolis and Learning to Live. Potentially one more from Images & Words.

Thoughts?

cyberdrummer

I actually think SDV may well get played, full band version.

Other songs I think will return to the setlists:

Peruvian Skies
Wait For Sleep
Learning to Live
Fatal Tragedy
The Great Debate
Honor Thy Father (yes, even with MP's departure)
The Killing Hand

setrataeso

Good call on Honor thy Father. I reckon DT is going to want to stave off any rumours that they'll avoid Portnoy songs. May as well play one of the most Portnoy-ish songs.
Not so sure about The Killing Hand, though. The impression I got was that the other members didn't care much about WDADU songs, and that Mike prosthelytized for them most of the time.

cyberdrummer

That may be the case, we don't know for sure, but I think DT will want to show that they're still the same band no matter what, and what better way to do that than by playing a song or two from their first album.

jonny108

Hmmm not sure about a full version of Learning to Live.  James might stuggle a bit.  I could see The Killing Hand making a return, maybe Through Her Eyes, The Great Debate, 6.00, Burning My Soul...one's they haven't played in a while plus some classics.

TAC

I hope The Killing Hand returns..but why would you think James would struggle with LTL?
He's been right on with it recently.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Zydar on November 09, 2024, 08:20:58 AMTAC are all puns blazing today.

DarkLord_Lalinc

I'd love to see The Great Debate and Stream of Consciousness return to the setlists.

cyberdrummer

Yeah I don't see why Learning to Live wouldn't return. They played it on the 8V tour and the first European leg of the SC tour.

setrataeso

If they played an instrumental, which one do you think they would go with? SoC?

cyberdrummer

I think Ytse Jam.

That and The Killing Hand will be the ones from WDADU to make a return.

DarkLord_Lalinc

I don't think we will see much of WDADU material live again, considering JP has expressed he doesn't love those songs.

?

JM doesn't really care about WDADU, either. This is an interview from '94 but I guess his opinion hasn't really changed: https://johnmyung.tripod.com/articles/irc_chat.txt
Quote
Q: Will you play "A Killing Hand" live?
JM: I don't think so. I don't personally have any plans of playing anything off the first
album. We have enough material not to. Most of the stuff on the last tour, we tried to
document on to Marquee CD or the Tokyo video. They're over and done with for
awhile.

The Curious Orange

I'll stick my neck out here and say The Great Debate, Trial of Tears and Endless Sacrifice will all be back in the new set list this tour.

bosk1

Yeah, but that's a VERY old interview, and his stated reason is that they just covered a lot of that material on the I&W tour.  That really doesn't apply now.  I'm not saying they WILL play any WDADU, but I see no reason why they shouldn't.

As far as my own hopes and guesses, I guess I'll go as follows:
-Pre-I&W:  I don't have a strong preference one way or the other and I can't guess whether they will or won't play anything.
-From I&W, I would want Wait For Sleep and Take The Time.  But I have such mixed feelings about TTT since it's impossible to sing the "pensive fear" section, so I don't know.
-From Awake, I'd love The Mirror and Lie.  They've been rotated in a bit over the last few tours, but not played a lot, and I've never seen them.  If there is a DVD release this cycle, I'd love for both to be on there.
-I'd never turn down an opportunity to see ACOS, but I'm not banking on them bringing it back unless they do evening-with shows again.  And even then, I'm not sure they would.
-From FII, either of the other two ballads:  Anna Lee or Take Away My Pain (96 version).  They really need to take Hollow Years out back and shoot it.  Peruvians Skies or Burning My Soul wouldn't be bad either.  Honestly, although I'm just speculating here, my gut tells me we'll see a resurgence of FII material on this tour.
-Scenes:  Not sure if they'll do anything from this album.  They might throw Home or TSCO out there just for some crowd reaction.  But otherwise, I'm not sure they'll play it at all.
-Six:  Don't know.  Although I know some disagree, I don't think we will EVER see the 12SS played in its entirety.  That being the case, I think TGP may see a comeback this tour.  It would be awesome if they did a mini-12SS with TGP into TSF.  I could see this realistically happening.
-TOT:  Not sure what they'll do with this one.  ES was played on the SC tour, so it seems unlikely.  But then again, I think JP really likes it, so it wouldn't surprise me if it came back.  I have no desire to see it.  They might also bring the metal with HTF.  But it also would not surprise me if they just went "safe" with As I Am and/or ITNOG.
-Octavarium:  Never Enough will be retired.  I don't see TROAE or Octavarium being played.  These Walls would be awesome.  It seems well-liked, and it's never been toured.
-SC:  Hmm...  My guess would be Forsaken.  Short song that allows them to represent the album without taking up too much set time.
-BCSL:  Probably one song from either of the two singles.  Maybe TSF.  I wouldn't expect much else.
-New album:  Heavily represented, as is usual for DT.

Hopefully not ES, they've played the fuck out that in recent tours.  Give it a long rest.

Hopefully Lifting Shadows Off A Dream makes a return to the setlist.

wasteland

There are 4 really great DT song that have not been played since 2004:

ACOS
Stream Of Consciousness
Trial Of Tears
Finally Free

My guess is that at least two of them will be widely featured on this forthcoming tour.

Ben_Jamin

Id rather have SOC and FF be back in the set.

Wish they'd just lower the key of that section so that James can sing it comfortably. It would be far less obtrusive than playing the truncated version, which I hate.

jam406

SDOIT please.

inb4 not gonna happen.

You said it.

As much as I'd like it to, of course.

Jamariquay

Hm.

Under A Glass Moon
Learning To Live
6:00
Lifting Shadows Off A Dream
Space-Dye Vest
New Millennium
Anna Lee
Trial Of Tears
Through Her Eyes
Finally Free
The Great Debate
About To Crash
Honor Thy Father
Stream Of Consciousness
These Walls

Plus, the usual staples on occasion (Pull Me Under, Metropolis, The Spirit Carries On, etc), and 3-4 new songs. I'd actually love it if they stayed away from the 20+ minute long epics entirely this tour, and played a larger number of shorter songs, like Rush typically does.

Some sort of possible for a quasi-AEW show. I came up with them some time ago, but i find them quite suitable (and enjoyable) for the summer tour, if the band does decide not to unveil any song from the new album.

0. Twin Peaks / Band History
1. Metropolis Pt.1 >
2. > Overture 1928
3. Strange Deja Vu > Speech
4. The Killing Hand
5. Peruvian Skies
6. Trial Of Tears
7. Wither
8. Scarred
9. Forsaken
10. Stream Of Consciousness
11. A Change Of Seasons
---
Encore:
12. To Live Forever > Ext. Jam
13. Learning To Live

or

0. Twin Peaks / Band History
1. The Glass Prison
2. A Fortune In Lies
3. These Walls
4. Beyond This Life > Speech
5. A Rite Of Passage
6. Under A Glass Moon
7. Lifting Shadows Off A Dream
8. Misunderstood
9. The Dark Eternal Night
10. The Mirror / Reprise
11. Just Let Me Breathe
12. Vacant >
13. > Octavarium
Encore
---
14. The Ytse Jam
15. In The Name Of God (ext. outro solo).

To say it all, I definitely see The Ytse Jam coming back to life (as well as ACOS), and a strong resurrection of FII, as someone hinted...

cyberdrummer

They would both be great setlists.

JayOctavarium

tired so making short post

I cant see 12ss, or HTF / ACOS (unless its just a sectional thing)

I can see us getting a rotational set closer of TCOT, ITNOG, LITS, T of T, Voices? , TMoLS (insert a few good set enders here), and an encore consisting of  WFS/LTL, or TSCO (or some other ballady type) with PMU, Metropolis, TTT, etc... one of those

and Mirror/Lie or Mirror / Reprise is a good possibility.

I agree with whoever said  SFAM would probably not get much rotation,

Blind Faith / Misunderstood / something from disc 2 from SDOIT (one of these)

As I Am... SoC? maybe idk

8vrm we will probably get IWBY / TALW / These Walls (plz)

SC = Forsaken. maybe more PoW? i dont think Constant Motion will be back for a bit

BCSL - Singles... duh

goodnight (4am... ugh)

ResultsMayVary

So many good setlists. Hopefully we get to see an amazing amount of great songs this tour cycle.

MajorMatt

I'm curious as to who the opening band will be for the first UK leg, any speculation?

cyberdrummer

I suspect it will be Anathema. Just a hunch really.

hefdaddy42

I don't think 6:00 or Lifting Shadows Off A Dream have been played since the 6DOIT tour.  Those would be welcome returns to the setlist.

jonny108

6.00 would be pretty awesome.

Dream setlist:

6.00
The Killing Hand
(New Song)
The Ytse Jam
Vacant
SoC
These Walls
Another Day
Fatal Tragedy
Lines in the Sand

Encore:
A Change of Seasons

Something along them lines would be awesome.

Ben_Jamin

wasteland

I'm pretty sure that Another Day won't be played on a regular basis again... Way too stressful for James's voice...

Goodnight Kiss or Lifting Shadows would be great replacements for it, though. I feel that these are among the recently overlooked songs really deserving some good live coverage again.

Ben_Jamin

Another Day could be played again, on occasion.
