Also, from STEVETHEATER a while back.

"Pssst. You didn't get this from me. From a very reliable source.
These where 5 out of 7 who audition for DT. 3 days, all auditions where filmed for next DT album.

- Virgil Donati
- Peter Wildoer
- Mike Mangini
- Marco Minnemann
- Thomas Lang
"

Looks like he was right. Especially the 3 days and that they were filmed.

..but I'm not on Facebook. DTF is MY Facebook! :)

Then spend the 3 minutes it takes to set up a Facebook account, and you're all set.

RoeDent

Yay! Finally, some drummer-related news endorsed by the band, rather than rumours from outside sources!  :tup  :metal

Tick

and at the end of it all you will hear John P. say...

"and we are sooo excited to tell you who the new drummer is and will do so shortly, but rest assured, you will not be disappointed."

Read the article, brah.

Yeah, it says, subscribe to the mailling list in DT's facebook, there is no mailling list on DT's facebook or at least it doesn't show one to me.. so that's why i'm asking
I second this. Hope I'll know where to click before the exclusive subscribing button disappears in 10 minutes. :-)

Then spend the 3 minutes it takes to set up a Facebook account....

And the rest of your life getting friend requests from people you hated in high school, invites to play Mafia Wars, and every corporation in the world able to buy my personal info? No thanks.

But seriously, it really is an annoying way for an established band to get information out.

Perhaps they should tweet it instead?

Just... ignore them. Just because you create an account doesn't mean you have to maintain it. Even better, don't put your personal info up. Heck, register under a fake name.

You can set yourself up on Facebook to be almost completely invisible to other people.  Friends won't be able to find you if they search.  Just need to do some deep editing of the privacy settings once you set-up your account.

If they do this right with the audition vids and the final announcement it will ALMOST be worth the wait.

Reading comprehension, folks. It's telling you to sign up for the mailing list on the day it says.

I'm only bitching about it because they could post info on their website, or distribute via mailing list. Believe it or not, that would actually be easier than signing up on fb and doing everything that way.

But anyway, sorry to be a sourpuss. Carry on with the excitement and merriment and I will zip my lip.

But like this, and unlike posting it on a webpage, they'll have a shitload of people whom they can then send any kind of marketing information. Let alone because they'll explicitly submit to a mailing list. And they won't need to worry about server overload. From their point of view, it makes a whole lot of sense to use Facebook.

Ben_Jamin

If They do a vid a day eliminating drummers till the end announcement, it'd be funny if the first guy they eliminated was Mike Mangini, it'd make it really interesting.

bosk1

I could conceive of them doing one-a-day and carefully doing the editing of each one so that it's completely vague about whether the person is eliminated or not.  That would actually be pretty genius in terms of generating buzz and wouldn't be hard to do at all.

Aniland

...oh my god, I just realized that the little face in your avatar is RB.

bosk1

Actually, it's Anakin Skywalker's niece, Rebecca Vader, and her chief henchman, Darth Kitty.  But now we're off-topic, so...

I haven't done one of these posts in a LONG time (like way back in the DT.net days), but I think it's time for:

The Score So Far, According to bosk1.

So, thus far in the thread, we have the following posts:

-Official announcements about how all this works:  1 post
-Posts asking how all this works (or attempting to answer):  14 posts
-Fanboy appreciation (not that there's anything wrong with that):  7 posts
-"It's about time!"/"Good, now we can finally stop speculating":  5 posts
-Debates about Facebook:  21 posts
-"I stopped caring _ months ago":   2 posts
-Veiled jabs at Mike Portnoy:  4 posts
-Drummer speculation:  2 posts
-Rebecca Black discussion:  2 posts

I'd say the thread is developing along expected lines.

[facebook stuff]

I think facebook is lame too, but I have an account I set up back when it was first created.  I used it for a few weeks and have sworn off it since.  But the account is still there for the occasional use.  I have no information posted, no pictures, nothing.  All they have is my e-mail address.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this!

I believe my post falls under categories 3 and 5.  Bosk please edit your tally appropriately.

I would think that any update they put, even video ones, will be up on Roadrunner's site not long after the FB updates, so you probably don't need to be on FB to see this.  Just a guess.

Sadly, this is pretty much what I expect to happen....

skydivingninja

So is there a time limit for this?  I'll be in class until 12:30 tomorrow and I'd hate to miss signing up if its only for a limited time.  I'd really like some new album and drummer info soon!  More info is better than none, after all.

Ben_Jamin

Probably not. Its just to sign up to a mailing list, think it'll stay until the actual announcement.
