For someone who prefers his Mastodon heavy, I did think that track was pretty damn good.

Lonk

Liked the song, that bass solo was great  :tup, then I went and listened to Cold Dark Places on my walk to work, good bunch of songs there too.

Looking forward to this album  :metal

Great video. Interesting use of the Elements.

I also just found this video of Brann on Seth Meyers as Guest Drummer and it's hilarious...

EOS is such a consistently good album.

Kotowboy

Yes it's like Crack The Skye and Blood Mountain had a CD Baby.

So far the new one sounds like the old style Mastodon from Leviathan era mixed with the newer Crack The Skye, Emperor of Sand style Mastodon.

Complete with old school Paul Romano art.

Can't say I hear Leviathan on these two tracks.

Kotowboy

Pushing The Tides verse is so Leviathan to me. It's like a fast Hearts Alive.

Yeah, a slight stretch for me but I'll give you that.

I'd take as much Leviathan as possible truthfully.

Kotowboy

New single out today. Just bought from iTunes but can't listen yet as at work.

Kotowboy

Speaking of iTunes. I bought all the Trivium songs from there and then complete my album was only £3.

So yeah. I'll get the cd another time.

Lonk

Listened to it, and I like it, I think this will be a really good album!

Kotowboy

Sounds like it will be quite a varied album which is what you want for the length that it is.

Just finished listening to Medium. Totally worth the purchase. I am not usually a fan of instrumental versions of songs that were written for lyrics, but Mastodon's music is so chaotic that it just works. I actually heard some things I don't think I heard before in them.

Fallen Torches just slays. What a track.

But with mastodon - they write the songs to sound good as instrumentals and vocals always come last so they still work.

Hushed and Grim has been getting glowing reviews so far! A lot of 10/10's!

I'm really getting excited now. I have really liked all 3 of the songs released so far! :tup

Yeah, I am ready for this album. Played the first 2 singles a lot, listen to the third only once and really liked it. Also, listened to CTS this morning on my way to work  :metal

The album sounds like it will be quite varied - which is what you want from a 90 minute album.

Imagine if it was 90 mins of Crusher Destroyer or Mother Puncher.

It would be exhausting

No, it would be fucking amazing.

I have not listened to Mastodon before. Do they have an Images type album that is generally regarded as the best most important? If there is ONE album I should listen to, what is it?

I'd say Crack The Skye tends to be the fan-favourite.

Crack The Skye is sort of the halfway between their previous aggressive style and their later proggy style.

I'd say start with Blood Mountain. If you want proggier - go forward. If you want heavier go backwards to Leviathan.

No it really would not. It would get boring after half an hour. I love Call Of The Mastodon and Remission but I couldnt listen to them back to back twice in a row in one sitting.

Oh and the album is out TOMORROW - which means it will be on streaming services at midnight wherever you are.

Yeah I think Crack the Skye is a good start. They cover so many different styles that is hard to point to just one album, but Crack the Skye is always a good starting point.

ok - I challenge you to listen to Remission twice in a row back to back with no break and see how often you fight the urge to pause or skip  ;D

I do like that their debut album is called Remission - and it's on Relapse records.

That would be like Dream Theater's first album on RoadRunner being called Wile E Coyote :)

Podaar

In celebration of the new album, I've started a discography run through.

So far today, I've listened to Remission, Leviathan, and Blood Mountain.

DoctorAction

I started with them when Leviathan came out and love most of what they've put out but have never really got into Remission, and Crack The Skye never gets played anymore. Nothing bad about either of them, they just don't hold that sparkle for me.

Leviathan and Emperor Of Sand are my favourites, fwiw.

Sounds like my kind of challenge.
