El Barto

That's tacked onto the end of the tour (back from Mexico). In the past they've treated Arizona and Texas the same way, so I guess there's a possibility they make it here after all. It'd be unusual, but perhaps they're commanding more interest now.

I also live in Houston, but I actually got tickets for the Salem show. Basically I just used Dream Theater as an excuse to take that vacation to Portland I've been wanting to do for the past 5 years!  :tup

Nice to see some love for my future home state...hopefully.

Super excited they added the Mesa gig near the end of the first NA leg, and at the perfect time too as I'm getting married the Saturday before the concert and my fiancĂ© has never seen DT live.  I was really afraid I'd have to travel to San Fran or LA and risk cutting into the wedding plans, and that probably wouldn't have gone over too well with the wife.

Picked up 6th row tix last night!!!

Wow, can't believe the start of the tour is almost here!

I am so excite! :caffeine: I will be perusing the forum tomorrow for live updates on the setlist if there are any.

So what is/are the song(s) they never played live before that we will be seeing this year?

I'm.in Madrid on vacation and eagerly waiting for the Thursday show. I flew in on Sunday, and the wait is killing me! In hindsight, I should have planned to arrive one or two days before the show only...I can barelt concentrate on the museums and sights over here - I keep thinking of the show! It's almost 10pm here now and I'm at the hotel room listening to DT12 on my mp3!

Looks like we'll find out tomorrow.

Shadow2222

If I'm not wrong, this is the first time in quite awhile (other than the Chaos in Motion/Octavarium tours which were very close to the album release) that the first European leg does not greatly precede the album release (usually resulting in only the "single" off of the album being played on that leg).

Because of this, how many of us believe that the sets will largely stay the same between the European and North American legs (minus a couple songs here and there that they either rotate or take out of the set for various reasons)?

?

I'm sure the setlist will be the same for both Europe and North America, maybe with the exception of some special songs at the Boston show.

mikeyd23

Yeah, based on the amount of production they keep hinting at, that will be included in the show, I'm guessing the sets between the European tour and North American tour won't differ too much...

Shadow2222

Good, I'm glad you guys think the same way, because I want to check the setlist of the first show tonight, and not have it be ridiculously different from the one I see in a couple months  :D

Yes! The only exception for me would be that they play either LNF or TITL since they were never played in Canada, except maybe one festival date in Quebec. I would be happy with ANY setlist though, since this is my first time.

mike099

I see that DT is doing 4 nights in a row before hitting Mexico.  That must take a lot of stamina especially being the 'evening with' format.   Would be nice if they hit Texas, Florida, Atlanta and then Ohio after the Mexico trip.  Of course they will probably finish with Mexico and then the south and midwest will get gigs in the fall.

If they go that route, hope they are 'evening with' format.

Wow, I wasn't sure if I was going to look at the setlist or not and just couldn't help myself.  I like it a lot. Love the emphasis on the anniversary albums.

mike099

I would love to hear comments on how they did with the Shattered Fortress.  I know a lot of folks do not like this song much because of the repeats, but this song has the potential to kick ass live.  I was hoping this song or The Glass Prison.

Now my expectations went off the roof!!!:

If the setlist is gonna be something like this in February 24, it'll be the best show ever for me.  :metal

I hate to say it, but I'm disappointed with it personally. Nothing at all from IaW (my #3 album), nothing at all from SDOIT (my #1 album), only 1 song even from my top 20 (ToT), and 4 of my bottom 10 songs. And then they go and play TSF instead of what could have been The Glass Prison. The SFAM chunk and ToT are definitely the saving graces for me.
For a band with a discography with such a high percentage of songs I love, there's a lot there I don't really care for. :dunno:

Shadow Ninja 2.0

Yeah, figured you wouldn't care for it. :lol   Still, a number of songs that have never been played before, especially Space-Dye Vest & Scarred is pretty exciting.

We're in a thread that mentions spoilers. No need to make the text small!

Even excluding the fact it includes every one of my most hated songs from Awake (plus The Mirror :metal), the rest of the setlist largely doesn't do it for me either, aside from anything from SFAM being welcome. Nothing that I'd consider a must see, aside from ToT, which I would be thrilled to see live. It's not that I dislike any of the rest of the songs, but they're mostly not really favourites either.
Hopefully there's a bit of rotation in the next setlists that I enjoy more. :)

chrisbDTM

i love it just for the fact that it's so different from previous tours

Jaffa

The encore is pretty much orgasmic.

The rest is okay, too, but nothing particularly special to me.

BlobVanDam

Oh yeah, considering that's all an encore, that's beautiful.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

I will admit, if they're bringing out unexpected stuff, I'd love to see ACOS.

It's a ballsy move, this set list, especially considering they're only representing half of the albums in their discography. This is about as ballsy as Rush's set list on the Clockwork Angels Tour!!!

I could have done without OTBOA and BAI - maybe one OR the other, but NOT both.

I like the second half of Awake - this line-up hasn't played ANY of those songs, so that's a plus, and SDV is a world-premier, as was TSF earlier in the show. And I think, without looking up, that the other Awake tunes are back from long breaks of not being played.

The SFAM picks are genius, all being songs that were NOT played last tour. Between last tour and this, all that this line-up hasn't played would be "Beyond This Life", "Through Her Eyes", "Home", and "One Last Time".

I love that TOT returns after a decade in full form! My ONLY gripe about THIS show's set (that is, if they decide to rotate new songs) is the exclusion of "The Bigger Picture", "Behind The Veil" and "Surrender To Reason". Arguably three of the better tunes on the album, but I can see why they would emit them due to time. There was NO way they'd NOT play TEI, AFTR, EM or TLG. A real shame, though, but I hope they rotate those songs for the others.

Implode

Now I'm really upset I won't be able to see them this tour. :'[

theseoafs

I agree with Marc that the setlist was really ballsy - I knew the band was aware of the Awake/SFAM anniversaries and was probably going to do something for one of them, but I never expected half the setlist to be devoted to the two albums.  The picks were pretty great (except for Lifting Shadows, which is a dud, but not all DT fans agree with me about that).

I'm also bummed TSF made it into the set in lieu of TGP, which I really want to see live.  I don't like TSF much, but I understand why it's being played, and I suppose it'll be a suitably fun live song.  The rest of the first set is pretty great -- Trial of Tears and Breaking All Illusions?  Who could ask for more?

All in all I'm really excited for my show in April -- the setlist has a lot of great tunes and deep cuts, and I haven't heard the overwhelming majority of the set live yet.
