HEY, THERE'S A ONE-MEMBER DIFFERENCE

(I think)

But that is a good point :lol, my bad for not realizing that. So now the question is, will the meet and greet be before or after the show? I've heard that Iced Earth has had them after the show in the past, but that would seem like a drag for the people that need to get home, and also the band might be tired out and maybe not in their most fan-friendly mood.

glaurung

Schaffer was definitely not in a fan friendly mood for the meet and greet after my concert.

People have told me that's unusual though, so I don't know what to expect.

Well are their meet and greets traditionally after the show? It would seem that it would be for this tour, because if the show starts at (*checks Ticketmaster*)

WHOOOOOAAH, it says the show starts at 9:00 PM... lolwat? This must be an error, but that would mean, what, Sons Of Liberty getting thirty minutes, and then Iced Earth going on at 9:40/9:45 and playing for twenty/twenty-five minutes? Unless they play 'til 11:00, which would mean they'd only play for about an hour and fifteen minutes... wat???

Which show will you be attending?

DC at the 9:30 Club on Sept. 10 (and then Kamelot the night after at Jaxx in Springfield, VA - gonna be a good weekend for music)...
Aw, shucks. As you can see in my sig, I'm seeing them the 23rd. Did you get a VIP package?

I did not get the VIP package.

Zook

Listening to the Melancholy EP makes me sad at how much the bass guitar in Iced Earth has diminished. Here it's so thick and full and just sounds great, but on newer albums, Jon makes it sound all twangy and you can barely hear it. DAMMIT SCHAFFER! On an unrelated note: KrotchRaut sounds awful on my nifty new headphones.

Ack. I caved. Yesterday, I rebought Alive in Athens from the Used record store for $7.99 (previously, I had sold all my Iced Earth CDs to them.)

I just can't deny that there was a point in time where I loved this band, and Alive in Athens seems to have everything about the band that I once loved included.

glaurung

Why would you deny liking Iced Earth? They're a great band!

I don't think anyone could deny that IE WERE a great band.

Crucible of man was extremely dissapointing.

MykeHavoc

It's still a good album. A step down from Framing Armageddon, but I still think its got some decent tracks. I think that's what I dig about IE...they don't really have a crap album in my opinion. I think the entire catalog is fairly strong. Its simply a matter of preferring certain works over others, but I like most songs from all releases.

They don't have an album with ALL bad songs. But they do have an album with LOTS of bad songs, and that album is called...I forgot, whatever the history book one is.

Oh yeah, you're the guy who thinks Gettysburg is mediocre. Although I kind of agree with you on The Glorious Burden, I still fart in your general direction.

It is mediocre. There are some VERY cool sections in it, but it's what 30 minutes? It ends up being 5 minutes or so of awesome stuff and 25 of either generic IE or parts that just drag on and on and on and on and....well you can see where I'm going with this...

....and on and on and on an

I disagree. There's no shredtastic guitar solos, but the rhythm playing is excellent and to me, isn't generic but a nice change. The instrumental section after ''the worms go marching one by one'' is amazing. I consider Gettysburg to be Jon's masterpiece....... Right after Night of the Stormrider.

I don't listen to IE for "shredtastic guitar solos". They never have them. It's just....lifeless. It had a lot of potential too. But I'm glad you liked it so much.

MykeHavoc

The Glorious Burden has another 9 tracks on it outside of the Gettysburg trilogy, and plenty of them kick ass. Plus Ripper sings on it, and Ripper slays everything.

Is there an alternate version to this album I was unaware of? Because last time I checked, the album was very short on the :2metal:.

Also The Glorious Burden is rather boring. I agree with Adam-*stroke*.

Yes, and some are ok. Greenface is pretty rockin, so is um....well I'm sure there's another 2 or so. But that's it.

MykeHavoc

I honestly like just about every track. Declaration Day is cool. The Reckoning is in my top ten favorite IE tracks of all time. Attila smokes. Red Baron is a cool, under-rated tune. And I don't care what people say, but I dig When the Eagles Cry. I think Hollow Man is easily the low point of the record. Valley Forge is kind of ok. Waterloo is a step up. Overall, a strong release.

Is there a top 25/50 IE track thread? If not, I'd like to take a stab at one.

Zook

I'd like to do one, but you can go first.

Zydar

The Hunter is probably my favourite IE track.

That is all.

MykeHavoc

I was just discussing covering that with my band, as it fits our heavy/melodic sound. Great track.

Should I make a separate thread? Once I'm done, feel free to take over.

Zook

Yes, please make a seperate thread.

MykeHavoc

So, completely unexpectedly...there's a good chance I'll be attending the NY show!!!

My friend won tix/VIP passes through the fan-club and knows how much of a fan I am, so he offered to take me with him.
I have to clarify a few schedule things, as I had no anticipation for this, but if all goes well, I'll be there. Will be getting there the day before the show for some sight-seeing. Haven't been to NY for longer then an hour in...jeez, like 14 years (lived in Brooklyn as a kid and have family still there). Hope to meet up with some fans for a pre-show brew!

New York show tonight with meet and greet! :2metal:

Taking the 6:03 train down there with my dad, we should be at the venue as soon as the doors open. And the doors open at 8:00? It's either gonna be a short show, or a late one...

Who else is gonna be there? I'll be in a Stone Temple Pilots shirt.

InstrumentalFiasco

I'm going with the Misses. Should be an awesome night, Nokia is fun especially if you're drinking.

I don't takes risks at concerts with drinking. I saw two twenty-year-olds get thrown out of MGM Grand At Foxwoods when I saw Alice In Chains, and they got thrown out before the opening act even went on.

Plus I'll be with my dad...

And by the way, they changed the name to Best Buy Theater.

glaurung

Like I said in the chat thread, have fun and good luck making it through Sons of Liberty. :lol

MykeHavoc

Decent show. Only playing 4 shows in a year shows though, as everyone seemed to be off at one time or another. But still enjoyable none the less. Got a bunch of shit signed, free flag and shirt. They made us go back to the end of the line for a picture, so I said fuck it and just took a cab back to my motel.

I must've seen you or you seen me, but didn't know it. I was wearing a Stone Temple Pilots shirt the first time around and the VIP shirt the second time around. Awesome show, I was three people away from the barrier. My dad told Jon that it was my sixteenth birthday (it is on Saturday) and that I'm a drummer, and redirected us to Smedley, who had his tech get a new stick for him to sign and give to me. :metal

InstrumentalFiasco

Decent show? They were incredible. Barlow was perfect and the band sounded tight and heavy. Song choices were great as well. Not one song from the last 2 albums even though I wanted to hear 10,000 Strong.

If you're interested the setlist was as followed.

1. 1776 intro
2. Burning Times
3. Declaration Day
4. Vengeance is Mine
5. Violate
6. Last December
7. Pure Evil
8. I Died for You
9. Travel in Stygian
10. Jack
11. The Hunter
12. Prophecy
13. Birth of the Wicked
14. The Coming Curse
15. A Question of Heaven

Encore
16. Colors
17. Iced Earth

wolfking

That's a damn good set.  How did Barlow go with Declaration Day??
