I've been saying Anna-them-a   pretty much since day one  :blush

But I also mis-prononce neil peart's last name, the word nuclear and countless other things  :lol

PixelDream

We've been pronouncing it as Anna-theme-ah for years.. I know it's wrong haha.

Same here. :lol The first time I realised I was saying it wrong was when I saw them supporting Opeth a couple of years ago and Danny said "We're Anathema", prounouncing it the correct way. I still always read it the wrong way in my head though. Same with Haken - which is meant to rhyme with 'bacon' - but I always say it as if it rhymes with 'blacken'.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Crap

I've been pronouncing Haken wrong too. But its probably just because I really like Bacon.

The Letter M

Prog bands these days - picking one-word names that no one can pronounce right. I guess all the easier ones have been taken for years now: Rush, Yes, Genesis, Camel, Caravan, Marillion, Supertramp, Kansas, Boston, Chicago, Asia...wait...those aren't prog bands. Either way, I think it's funny how both Anathema and Haken, two of today's biggest prog bands, have one-word names that are often mispronounced, and I'll admit to not knowing how to pronounce either until recent months.

I said Anathema as "Anne-uh-theme-uh" and Haken as "Hock-en" (like the Haken Continuum that Rudess uses). I never would have guessed "Uh-nath-ema" and "Hay-ken".

To be fair, Anathema is a real word, not just something the band made up.
I pronounced it as anna-THEY-ma too until my dad corrected me. :lol

ColdFireYYZ

Yeah, I pronounced it Anna-they-ma when I first got into them, but then I heard the word pronounced correctly on the radio.

Yeah exactly, it's a word that unfortunately a lot of people just don't know because people don't, on the whole, have very good vocab these days. Fair enough for people who don't have English as a first language of course!

Personal attack, bant!

So I finally got around to listening to Judgement, and it's awesome. Far far better than either WHBWH or WS, which I don't really like at all.

Judgement is one of their best! Amazing album.

Scorpion

Yeah, I'd agree. The fact that everyone gushes over both WHBWH and WS, whereas I find them pretty boring and bland just hindered me from checking out their earlier stuff, I guess. Should have done so sooner!

If you like Judgement you might like Alternative 4 and A Natural Disaster as well. Both are more to the dark side of their sound. And maybe if you start getting into their older albums, the new ones could click for you. You never know.  :tup

Tomislav95

I still haven't listened to Judgement. I like Alternative 4 but WS is my favorite followed by WHBWH. I can't describe feeling I have while listening those two albums :)

That's it :P
While listening to WS I'm sad and happy at the same time :')

The King in Crimson

Man, this new album is really underwhelming.  I've listened to it a couple of times but it's just not doing much for me. The first half sounds like the last couple of Anathema albums right down to how "The Lost Song" apes "Untouchable" from WS, except "Untouchable" was good.  "Anathema" and "Ariel" are pretty damn good and probably the best on the album. The second, electronic half just seems to be missing something. "Distant Satellites" just kinda goes on and on and doesn't really go anywhere. "You're Not Alone" at least has an identity, it's just too bad I don't much care for it. "Take Shelter" and "Firelight" are just kinda there.

As of right now, I'd put this one under most of their other releases except MAYBE Eternity and The Silent Enigma. Maybe this will grow on me, but right now, color me unimpressed.

Wow, thanks for that. I REALLY like his drumming!

Zantera

I'm still happy with the album. The electronics give a nice breath of fresh air in their music. :)

Heretic

Yeah, still loving it myself as well. Really like how the album shifts towards the end, and I think the title track is the most atmospheric song on the record, honestly.

Sketchy

It's a good album, but I have to admit, I find myself liking their harder edged approach on Alternative 4.

Ben_Jamin

Since my stereo doesn't play cds anymore, I popped this album in my PS3 and connecting my tv to the stereo. I found an awesome visual of the Earth spinning and it fits the album perfectly.

Awesome album.

Tomislav95

Electronic elements remind me of Archive.

Cyclopssss

As much as I loved WS and am loving We´re here because we´re here, Distant Sattelites doesn´t do all that much for me, sorry.
In fact I find it rather bland.

That makes two of us.

Ben_Jamin

The album title is perfect,  it feels as if I'm the satellite slowly zooming away from Earth

PixelDream

Best release of the year so far for me. This is exactly how I like my Anathema (first half) and the electronic stuff is a nice change for them.

gazinwales

I got my CD/BR from CD Japan this week, played it once on my ipod and once in 5.1.
It's all very nice, but I have a lot of trouble differentiating between the songs.
It pretty much is the same tempo/feel on every song.
I had the TV on whilst played the 5.1 BR and I had to keep flicking to see what song it was.

I far prefer the older A4/Judgement era material, but this stuff is good, but perhaps the 3rd album in a row of too similar material.

DarkLord_Lalinc

The Lost Song is amazing. A great spiritual successor to Untouchable.

Lolzeez

I love The Lost Song Part 1 and 2. Part 3 just seems unnecessary.

Orthogonal

I've been out of the loop for way too long, just bought the album and am listening to The Lost Song Part 1 now.
:heart :metal :hefdaddy

Scorpion

So if I like Alternative 4, Judgement and Eternity, but don't like We're Here Because We're Here and Weather Systems, will I like the most recent one?

Zantera

I wouldn't guarantee it, but the new one definitely has a darker vibe than WHBWH and WS had. For some reason Distant Satellites make me think of a warm summer night by the bonfire instead of a warm summer day at the ocean (like WHBWH/WS does).

If you haven't checked out A Natural Disaster yet, that one could be more up your alley though. Closer to Alternative 4 and Judgement.

Probably not, it still feels like material left from the previous two that they revisited and changed up for a large part of the album. I only listened to it once, but unlike the previous albums nothing in it makes me want to check it out again. Maybe it will change after a few months but for now I have absolutely no desire to listen to it.
