Yep, and this time it's at a place that sounds way better! I'll make sure to let you know how it went.  :tup

Nice show last night. The sound was better than the last time I saw them but I think it could have been a bit better. The band was great and they made sure to involve the crowd and seem to enjoy the energy we brought so that was relly nice.
Overall I really enjoyed the experience

Edit: I almost forgot, I'm so in love with Lee :hearts:

senecadawg2

Yeah Lee is a keeper. Anything surprising on the setlist?

Nekov

I was surprised by the opener, I was expecting The Lost Song Pt1 but it makes sense that they opened with Anathema instead.

I was just checking setlist.fm and it seems South America got a slightly different setlist than Europe.

jammindude

I really feel like I could totally get into these guys because they truly meet the definition of "progressive".   I was actually into "doom metal" (liked Cathedral especially) in the early 90's...and to know that they went from things similar to that onwards to what they are doing now is just amazing.

This is a band that I could probably really get into their entire catalog for various reasons along the way.

Sacul

Either The Silent Enigma or Eternity for doom metal, Judgement for their dark, depressive alternative rock phase (A Fine Day to Exit if you're into Radiohead and the like), and both We're Here Because We're Here and Weather Systems for their modern happy, atmospheric sound.

Or you can just make your way through their discography (starting with Serenades) and see how they have progressed till today - its an amazing journey, but you'd have to be really patient. And calm your hype, 'cause the band's style and sound might be a bit different to what you may use to listen to. I hope you find at least one record you'll like   ;D.

You guys got Deep and One Last Goodbye instead of The Storm... and Take Shelter - I'm jelly!

Nekov

I wish we'd also gotten Are you there? like Chile did but I won't complain

Anathema has tweaked AFDTE and re-released it with a new intro. Always seemed to me like that album was a bit under appreciated.

Also apparently there are two US tours in the works right now, for September and November, respectively. Can't wait

Zantera

AFDTE is a really nice album. Not one of their best, but I would say probably the most underappreciated. The title track, Temporary Peace, and several other really good songs.

Sacul

I've always loved AFDTE, never got why people tend to dislike it. I know it's different from their other albums, but that doesn't make it worse. Anyways, listening to the stream on SoundCloud, and damn, that new intro song is great. And the new tracklist is better than the previous one, even if they got Pressure to the middle instead of opening the record. Whatever - will buy the box set for sure.

did they take it down? i can't find the streaming link anywhere.

this is exciting! by far their best album, finally with the amazing intro they stupidly left off! i've only had a mid-quality unmastered MP3 Danny dropped on the forum many years ago. AND it's on vinyl! ... holy crap!

Here's the most complete article I found - it includes details on the box set, the reissue of AFDTE (with the streaming link), and a nice interview with Vincent.

I heard the intro track when it was circulating on the Internet a couple of years ago. Cool that it's finally getting released officially!

AFDTE is not one of my top 3 Anathema albums, but I think it's a pretty strong record and I prefer it to AND and Weather Systems, for example.

Zantera

I don't like the idea of re-arranging the order of the songs on an album, mostly because I've gotten used to the album a certain way, but if the new AFDTE helps bring in some new fans for the album, then it's cool that they are doing it.

i'm into it just because i've always thought "Pressure" is a horrible opening choice, setting up the album like it's the new Coldplay record before going in a much better direction with "Release." plus, once i heard the intending opening track years ago, it was clear to me which option was better!

AFDTE is actually the next Anathema album I was going to get (I'm working my way backwards; I have DS, WS, WHBWH and I just got AND). It's not very clear from that interview when the new version of that is going to be released, though... Obviously at this point I want to wait for that...

Pressure is one of my favorites from the album so I obviously disagree. :)

Zantera

I think Pressure is great, but I also think it's a weird choice for an opener. That said, it's the opener I have gotten used to. To me it's like having watched a movie the same way 50 times and then hearing that two scenes should have changed places in the movie, it would feel different even if it makes sense for the creator.

I think it's around April 13th, along with the boxset.

Pressure is my fav song from the album, but it actually feels more like a soft closer rather than the first track of the record.

Pressure is a good song, but I've always thought it was a bad choice for an opening track. They probably thought it would be good to open with the lead single, but it didn't work IMO. Release would've been a better way to set the mood for the album, and I see it's the first proper song after the intro in the new tracklist:
QuoteA Fine Day
Release
Leave No Trace
Underwold
Pressure
Panic
Breaking Down The Barriers
Looking Outside inside
A Fine Day To Exit
Temporary Peace

seasonsinthesky

damn, i didn't realize they split up the ending trifecta too. now i dunno how i feel anymore!

(there's always the original! and i'm sure i'll just end up making my own preferred order anyway – this keeps happening to me...)

Sacul

I'm really digging the new song, and the new tracklist flows really well actually. I just hope they don't compress the album, cause on SoundCloud it looks that's the case.

Just ordered Weather Systems for $3 in the local online store. Always wanted to give this band another try, and with this price I'm ready to do this. :tup
Quote from: Train of Naught on May 28, 2020, 10:57:25 PMThis first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Nekov

I know a lot of you guys don't like noisy crowds and stuff but this needs to be shared here beacuse it's a great showcase of how some bands really like the crowd getting involved in the show and it was one of the best moments of that concert

senecadawg2

I saw that the other day, Nekov... Very cool.

And speaking of crowd involvement, there's an incredible recording of the band performing One Last Goodbye and the crowd taking most of the vocal duties while Vincent breaks down into tears. It's my single favorite video on YouTube.
