Hell, I'll give it a listen just for the cover alone! And of course Doug Aldrich. I've loved his contributions to Whitesnake (and Transformers ), so he's earned a lot of cred with me. And also it's from 1990, which automatically means it has a pretty solid chance of being awesome.

And since I saw it mentioned further up, I'll mention that the new Crazy Lixx album really disappointed me. New Religion was a great album and set itself apart from the other recent bands of the genre, but the new album feels like a step backwards and just blends in with the other generic GNR/ACDC knockoff bands. Very samey with the uptempo straightforward beats and riffs. I've only given it a couple of listens, but I really don't feel compelled at this stage to give it any further spins.

New Religion was a great album and the new one has some good songs. It's just missing the massive Chris Laney production. The songs just aren't given a chance to shine.

Re the Hurricane cover, the original was edited and the young lady removed- just the empty chair. Bloody pmrc.

Been in an AOR mood today and dug the first two Hugo cds and the Valentine ST out of the attic. Three very good albums and Hugo is an excellent Steve Perry clone. The 2nd album has a great cover of the Triumph classic Magic Power- made me check out Triumph and I'm glad I did. The band on the Hugo albums was British band Ten (who can be brilliant at times). Enjoyable stuff.

Ever heard The Snakes - Once Bitten? The only original album I love with him on it. It is a blatant Whitesnake clone featuring ex members of Whitesnake, and Jorn sounds so much like Coverdale, you could probably convince Coverdale he actually sang on it.

Yeah it's good. A little generic sounding but quality none the less. And Johnny shines as always. A very underrated singer.

Today I've been listening to XYZ's debut. Got it on vinyl on release but never really rated it- thought it was a poor man's dokken- but I really enjoyed listening to it. It's still a poor man's Dokken but certainly a decent album.

Which solo album? Doesn't he have a couple? I have Diamond Blue, which has a couple of amazing tracks on it, although the rest didn't much grab me. I like his vocals though.

Yeah, Diamond Blue, really enjoyed that one, I think he has one solo album before it, but I don't have that one.  I do agree the second half isn't as good as the first.

Here we go. The weather is glorius in the UK and that means a melodic rock soundtrack is needed. Today's recommendation is this album from Keel's guitar player Marc Ferrari. It's Keel-like with a far better singer, Rory Cathey, a guy he found after original singer Oni Logan quit to join Lynch Mob, and he's in that caliber. There is a great cover of I Just Wanna Make Love To You here, but some excellent late 80s LA hard rock.

Yeah, I know it's not really old school    But I'd call me a kid too, I was born in 84 so anything late 80's early ninties I'd call old school.

Where do you suggest one starts?

Difficult, all of their stuff is quite good (except for The Journey Goes On and To the Power of Ten, but maybe that's just me). A Cry for a New World, Forever in Time and Nowhere to Hide use keyboards far more than the other albums, whereas Time Tells No Lies, Predator in Disguise and Sanctuary focus more on the guitars. Personally, my first album was Forever in Time, and I love that, though I'd pick either Time Tells No Lies or Predator in Disguise as my favorite.

If you're looking for a song, try the following:
- Lovers to the Grave from Time Tells No Lies
- Playing God from Sanctuary
- Naked from Nowhere to Hide
- Can't See the Angels from Predator in Disguise
- Listen To What Your Heart Says from Predator in Disguise

Yeah, those are the tracks that I'd recommend.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and they've had a fucking lot of different members - I think that their line-up changed for every album. I just checked, and there were even some better known guys in the band, such as Paul Di'Anno, Clive Burr and Dennis Stratton, albeit none for very long.
