Looks to be some cool bands in attendance - even some luminaries like Alice Cooper, Mustaine, Simmons, etc.  - but so far the douche balloon from Headbangers Ball, and the intro video of random people headbanging and getting punched in the face is making me feel like I'm an idiot for enjoying metal.

glaurung

What does Xbox Live have to do with the Golden Gods awards?

WildeSilas

It's broadcasting live on XBox Live. I'm not sure where else? Facebook stream?

glaurung

Oh okay, cool. You just didn't mention Xbox in the OP so I was a bit confused. :lol

Dark Castle

Wow, every single one of those choices was a joke. VH didn't even win comeback of the year. Enough said.

Blob said they didn't win. Whatchu talkin' bout Willis?

Slipnot (knot? I can't be arsed). Oddly, DT was nominated in the Comeback catagory too. I suppose losing a member and going on ise  considered a "comeback" now that people are too young to remember Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ozzy/Rhodes, Metallica/Burton, and some of the more tragic stories that led to true Comebacks. Hell, even Evanescene was more of a win for that because of their guitarist's stroke a few years ago. If it's even the same guy  ::)

This was clearly a circle-jerk that the older guys showed up for just because it was "metal" - everyone standing around patting each other on the back, Dee Snider being annoying (as usual). It was also a thinly veiled showcase for Alice Cooper Band The Cure Motley Crue Marilyn Manson Black Veil Brides since they took up nearly half the air time with their various nonsense. Same case with Tedium Trivium. I'm not sure how guys like Cooper, Mustaine, and Elfson and sit through that shit and have any sense of pride whatsoever in that which they have spawned. Neil Peart looked like a Nun in a whorehouse accepting the lifetime achievement award. About the only thing they got right. Even Miles Kennedy (Alter Bridge/Slash) sounded off, like he couldn't hear himself. I realize it's an award show hosted by a magazine, but the prompters and graphics were all off, the cameras couldn't find the speaker half the time, and the only place you got to see most of the advertised, worth seeing, people was on the carpet outside. This goes on my ignore list along with the Grammys and the RRHOF.

Dr. DTVT

The only time Golden Gods Awards meant jack was the first time when they basically all honored Ronnie James Dio, and even then it wasn't so much about the awards as much as it was RJD's last public appearance.

Gadough

I know this isn't worth getting angry about, but looking at the list of winners legitimately pisses me off. This really isn't acceptable. At all.

A universe where the world's premiere hard rock/metal magazine doesn't recognize Brann Dailor as the best metal drummer alive is a universe that sucks testicles.

But overall, Revolver is a shit magazine and the Golden God Awards are just as stupid as the RARHOF, even if they did include Rush.

Ravenheart

I don't get why anyone cares about this, but okay.

Dark Castle

This is why I read Decibel.  Only miniscule amounts of bullshit at only some times.

I legitimately enjoy that album, but it shouldn't have won best album.

I also like dubstep in general.

Those whole Golden Gods Award is turning more and more into the Golden Turd Award or Golden Gland D'or or the Golden Whore Awhored to me.

Who thought this up, anyway?

Revolver is actually ridiculously low on the worldwide totem pole of metal mags. They've only been around since 2000 and haven't got shit on Kerrang, Metal Hammer, or Terrorizer.

Revolver is "metal" (quotation marks used for a reason) at best as it seems to cater to to people who think they're metal because they listen to stuff that's heavier than the top 40 that all their friends listen to.

Dark Castle

MetalHammer is starting to go down the shitter too, they've been slowly over  the past few years slipping into what's trendy.
Decibel Magazine is my favorite.  Their reviews on some albums I don't agree with, but they cover the stuff I actually care about.  Hell Mastodon and Opeth have been on the cover multiple times.  It's a good magazine if you're looking for a magazine that covers the metal/extreme metal you actually care about.
