Metallica
Slayer
Megadeth
Anthrax

Although, I've lost all of my respect for Megadeth and most of it for Metallica. I've never really dug Anthrax, so...

Wait, seriously?
Yeah, why? I know Slayer is often seen as inferior to the two Ms, but are they really that much worse?

Jaffa

I now have this hilarious mental image of Disciple or Cult being played in a Church somewhere.

That's not what I was implying. As religious as you are, I'm surprised that you like Slayer.

Oh. Yeah, it's just the music that matters, to me. I can't understand the lyrics so it doesn't bother me at all.

HE FUCKING HATES ME

???

Tom is very easy to understand. Especially compared to other thrash/death metal vocalists. But whatever man. Slayer's awesome, so if you like them, that's cool.

Maybe you have to acquire an ear for understanding thrash vocals. I don't have it yet.

Jaffa

Eh, even if you could understand them, you're still perfectly entitled to enjoy them in spite of their lyrics.  For the record, though, their lyrics include "Religion is hate, religion is fear, religion is war, religion is rape, religion's obscene, religion's a whore."

And Tom is a Catholic! :lol

When asked about the lyrics to Disciple, he said, "God doesn't hate anybody...but it's a fucking cool lyric."

I kind of like Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer all equally

But Anthrax never really did it for me.

Metallica. Megadeth is fine but I never really got into them -- they always seemed to me to just be a poor man's Maiden. Anthrax is lame and Slayer sucks enormous balls.

Whenever I listen to Megadeth, my thoughts drift to Maiden and the Maiden songs that I could be listening to during this time. Not a good thing for a band.

Gadough

Hmm. That's odd. I see very few similarities between the two. They play completely different styles of metal.

Dark Castle

Honestly, I feel Slayer and Megadeth shouldn't even be in the Big 4, and if I had my way, Exodus and Overkill would be put in, but since I can't do that,
Metallica
Anthrax

Metallica: First metal band I ever fully explored (ain't I fuckin unique?) and immensely loved their first five albums immediately except for KeA which took about a month or two to join the rest in my heart. Learning to play their shit really fast-tracked me to being a competent guitarist since they were the first legitimate leads I ever mastered and to this day I can and will still listen to any/all of their pre-Load stuff and love the fuck out of it.

Megadeth: Rust in Peace and Peace Sells But Who's Buying are the only albums of theirs I enjoy every track from despite owning every album released through Cryptic Writings plus The System Has Failed. The others all seem to get dragged down by songs with boring riffs and Dave's vocals can either really drive the point home in an awesome way if it's a good song or put the final nail in the coffin for a shitty song. Good "band" (quotes because of the band not really having an identity beyond Mustaine/Ellefson due to personnel instability) with a lot of talent but it just seems like much of the post-RIP stuff is either lazily-written or Dave's just out of ideas imo.

Slayer/Anthrax (Equally disinterested but both occasionally surprise me with something I can enjoy.)

1. Slayer
2. Metallica
3. Anthrax
4. Megadeth

I don't listen to Slayer any more at all.  But I have the most respect for them, because of all these bands, they are the only ones who (in my mind) never compromised at all...not even one little tiny bit.

Metallica used to be further down the list...but St Anger and Lulu won me over.   Anyone with the guts to give that giant of a raspberry to the entire music community gets kudos from me.

Anthrax used to be my #1...but the drama of the last few years really soured me in every possible way.  The crap they pulled on John, and then Dan just so they could go for the cash grab with Joey is inexcusable in my book.   :tdwn

And I just think Dave hasn't done anything original in years...and he's always been a real jerk...so....

I know, right?   The Black Album was the album that really ticked me off.   Still my least favorite Metallica album.
