I nominated this thread for best ever for a reason, and that;s probably because I'm one of the oly people ever posting in here. I had a great CHiorstas dinner with a couple of friends tonight and of course it got aout of hand with beer. Happy evenings and goodnight.

So I've been trying out different wines. I'm not a drinker at all but definitely a wine guy over beer guy. Since it's more expensive it's only once every few months. I've mostly stuck to Merlot and tonight I tried a glass of Pinot Noir, which I quite liked. Any further recommendations?

I would recommend any Moscato or Asti, but they're much sweeter than what you listed. Try any White Zinfandel and see what you think. Sutter Home and Barefoot make decent wines, so I'd try them first.

As for me, on the north side of Chicago there's this place called Hali Kahiki. It's a Hawaiian themed drinking place. Mostly couples. Some groups. And then me and the family. Our family night out was drinking Blue Hawaiians, Mai tais, Scorpions and Chi Chis. I think you can tell by the correct punctuation and spelling that I got suckered into being DD.

I did in the end, I volunteered as the designated driver that night. Very smart move.

Yesterday was pure debauchery again though. Had a maaasssive hangover today, and I had to clean up shit too. Ugh.
But, now there's only one party left (New Year's Eve) before I head back to the US. And at least on the New Year's party I can set my own pace. Yesterday we were doing a communal type drink, and you couldn't pace yourself. The fastest drinker essentially set the pace.

I'm so ashamed of myself, I've been drunk twice in the last three weeks and I forgot to post both times! While on winter break was understandable, I was far away from a computer. Back at college? How dare I!?


I must rectify this situation by finishing off my handle of Sailor Jerry's tonight.

My haul from my trip to Bottle Revolution out in Raleigh yesterday:

Sierra Nevada's Narwhal Imperial Stout:



Drinking this as I type this post. It weighs in at a pleasant 10.2% abv and wears it well since it's miles away from entering that harsh chemical "alcohol first" taste that many less-well-made beers start veering into as soon as they enter 8.0+ territory. The carbonation is nearly nonexistent but in a good way since there's just that faint prickliness of carbonated pop to assure you it ain't flat. The body is great as it's as thick as "velvety" can get without venturing into "syrupy" country and the flavor is very rich with notes of vanilla, coffee, and oak.

I've respected Sierra Nevada's ability to deliver rock solid beer for many years now but this is the first one that's truly blown me away. They've really stepped their game up with this one

Nothin new here. I had this once before a year ago and it fingerfucked my liver into a frantic, gasping orgasm without even stopping to say "Fine day me lady!" I've lived in North Carolina in two separate stints. Once for 5 months a few years ago and currently for the last year and a half and I've always been impressed with the selection of beers in the emporiums out this way. That said, this beer in particular has been head and shoulders above all others I've tried out this way (about 80-90 in total.) It weighs in at 9.5% and has a lot in common with Sierra Nevada's Narwhal that I described above but is better in every regard.

Bottom line: this is one beer that needs to be on the bucket list of anyone who doesn't hate dark beers.

Haven't tried this one yet but it weighs in at 10.0% and given my love for IPAs coupled with DFH's splendid track record with me, I'm fairly stoked for it. I'll try to remember to come back and edit my impressions of it into this post.
