Hypnotize is fantastic yes. It's only brought down by one certain track that I won't point fingers at because that song blows ass.
Remember when you hated the title track olol

Holy Mountains? Because THAT song for sure blows and brings it down

SoaD are my favourite band, and Hypnotize, which many seem to like less than other albums, kicks ungodly amounts of ass. Soldier Side is probably my favourite SoaD tune ever.

That makes me upset. U-Fig, She's Like Heroin, Vicinity of Obscenity, even Lonely Day are all fantastic.

Lynxo

As much as I admire Serj and everything he's done in SOAD...I don't like how his vocals have changed over the years.

Self-titled: quirky, kinda cool, some METÖÖÖÖÖL moments.
Toxicity: FUCKING AWESOME!
Steal This Album: FUCKING AWESOME!
Mesmerize/Hypnotize: kinda cool...but not so metal anymore.
Current: singing through his god damn nose all the time! And the more heavy vocals are just about completely gone.

I loved SOAD when I saw them two years ago and thought everybody in the band was awesome...but in hindsight, I'm really not very fond of how he sings nowadays. I deeply respect a singer's ability to learn new things and new vocal styles, but why lose what you already have? It's his current voice that keeps me from getting excited about a possible new record. :-\

Oh well, just about everything the band has put out ranges from good/great to awesome.

Yup yup. Mezmerize and Hypnotize are two pieces to a whole, the former is more laid back, while the latter is more crazier. Both are their best albums. Hypnotize is my favorite due to it having a blend of all their styles.

I am still wondering why, on the internet only, do people not like Hypnotize?

How is it not the worst SOAD album by a f--in mile ?

Uhmmm... because every song on the record is unique and interesting, with the bonus of containing the best that SoaD has ever written (Soldier Side, Dreaming, Hypnotize)?

No, seriously, I doubt that we are going to reach any accord here - I have a very personal relationship with this album that influences my perception of it, without a doubt. Still, I enjoy it more than any other SoaD album out there.

Kotowboy

Fair Enough - i've just always found it to be the weakest.

Especially since it has way too much Daron on it.

darkshade

I also think Hypnotize is the worst SOAD album, if you can call it that. I realize now I haven't heard the album in some time, so I think I'll throw it on in my car on the way to work, and I'll let you know if my feelings have changed.

It has a weird party vibe that is used in contrast with the lyrics. Meaning we're partying as the world is dying. The fact its Daron led doesnt bother me at all. Doesn't bother me its poppy either.

Hmm... I guess I like Hypnotize more than Mesmerize. I dislike the last three songs on the latter, while I like every song on Hypnotize. Toxicity is still my favourite though.

I prefer Hypnotize to Mezmerize too, but I consider Lost In Hollywood to be the best song on Mezmerize other than Radio/Video. What don't you like about that song?

Kotowboy

Daron is a shit singer / guitar player ?

WindMaster

Hey so I just bought Toxicity. Hell of an album.

Show some respect. Not only to Daron, but to me. I asked for Onno's opinion, not yours.

So my opinion on Hypnotize has gone up extremely after giving it a whirl for the first time in ages. I still think it's the weakest of their albums, but it's a great one. There's more Serj than I remember there being.

Well, if there's one thing that we can agree on, then it's that even the weakest SoaD album is pretty fucking amazing.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten that one was so good, lol. Well then, I have to change my statement. I don't really like Sad Statue and Old School Hollywood.

NECROTHREAD ZOMG

So yeah, repeated listens have reaffirmed the claim that Soldier Side has on the title "best song in all of existence and beyond". It's that good.

Soldier side is fan-fucking-tastic, and the ultimate closer to Mesmerize/Hypnotize. Really, I think it's a pretty solid send-off for the entire band. Sure, it doesn't have that trademark weirdness to it, but it's easily their most emotional song, and I can't think of a better song they could have ended with.
