I did mean both. That's what those bass pedals are actually made for, right? To have a sub-note, allowing the bass player to play more melodic stuff.

Well, typically, in a live setting, they can be used to allow the bass player to play melodic bass lines while still providing a bass tone, or for the bassist to play a double-neck guitar to play rhythm while still playing bass notes (giving the guitarist a chance to play lead or solo). Keyboardists can use it to play bass notes while both hands are doing melodic things. The possibilities are endless, but if they're present in the studio for DT12, I'm willing to bet we'll see them on stage for the tour! The question will be, though, who will use them? JMX, JP or JR?

I read somewhere that Myung was using the pedals live during the chorus in BMUBMD

Cedar redaC

I say, give one to every member of the band (except for Mike, who's got enough to do with his feet as it is.)

Can you say four-part-bass-pedal-harmony?

Cymbals! Now I think that the only instrument missing is James  :lol

Anyone notice the synth just behind the ride cymbal? Maybe Mangini is coming up with little melodies or chord progressions of his own!

Nihil-Morari

Could be, or could be samples

Zydar

It's confirmed: There will be cymbals on the album.

Sketchy

Mike Mangini: the only person who plays keyboards with a pair of sticks.

That's certainly good news!

Yeah, the Taurus was in studio for the last album and was on stage with JMX too. He was using it for some super low end mainly on the new stuff but also incorporating it into older tunes too.

I think the only person who would want to use James as an instrument is Mrs. LaBrie.   ;)   Well, maybe some of the female personnel here, but other than that...

Didn't see this one posted here yet...

Looks like Jordan is playing a G#/Ab with his left hand...so somewhere, on the album, in some song, at some point, there will be a keyboard bass note in G#/Ab...

I... I... I don't know what to say. I had high expectations for this album but this honestly made me rethink them? I mean, who does he think he is? :omg:

Seriously, I wouldn't have thought that Jordan would go this far. A low Ab/G#? Yeah, sorry, but that's one buyer less. :millahhhh

Orbert

Not so fast.  We know that Jordan splits the keyboards and typically plays a different keyboard part in each hand.  He's probably playing a sustained string line or something with his left hand, while his right hand moves so fast that it cannot be captured on film.

I've never heard keyboard bass on a DT album, and while that doesn't necessarily preclude it from this album, it would be out of character.  Plus, we know that there's a set of Taurus pedals for that kind of thing.  He's just doing his regular Jordan thing.

I wonder if this will end up on the album? ;D

With Mike's habenero pepper affinity, it very well may be. :lol

I was bummed the end of ADTOE didn't end with some sort of sound effect that could tie it in with the next album. :/

I liked the idea, but I agree with the band that they should allow each album to be it's own thing. Or something.

Kotowboy

Plus they finished with that idea three albums ago...

Interesting tidbit. I posted a comment/question on Chyucki's facebook sometime last week. I asked if he was recording DT? And a few mins ago he liked my comment. Dont know if it really means what I think but it could be interesting if Richard records DT this time around and not use Northfield

SystematicThought

Hmm, I do wonder if they are working with Northfield again.

Yes, I think it's time for a change.

Zydar

Are we closer than before?

Closer to a release date, yes.

puppyonacid

When I saw DT in Manc in '93, JM was using bass pedals then.

Also, I'm pretty certain he's using them on the Live in Tokyo vid. Makes sense since it was the same tour.

If I recall, they're quite noticable on A Fortune In Lies.

Perpetual Change

Didn't he use them on the last album/tour too?

Kotowboy

Pretty sure. I thought it was common knowledge he used them. I dunno how long he's been using them live but I've seen them in his pedalboard for a while I think ?
