Looks like Jordan is playing a G#/Ab with his left hand...so somewhere, on the album, in some song, at some point, there will be a keyboard bass note in G#/Ab...
But what if he used the transpose setting on the keyboard and the note isn't a G#/Ab? :neverusethis:

Jordan doesn't use any transposing settings. It messes with his sense of pitch. He has only done it once, either on Panic Attack or These Walls, I can't remember which one.

I'm completely out of the loop, have they entered the studio already? If not, when will they do it? When will we see the new album?
In my spare time I make music! Check it out. :)

Yep, they're in the studio now. Too early for any word on a release date, although I'd guess mid to late 3rd quarter of the year?

This is assuming that their schedule is roughly the same as last time with ADTOE. And so far, it seems about the same. I figure they will finish recording the bulk of the album's parts by month's end, then spend another month or so mixing and doing post-production/over-dubs/re-trackings/etc., then between April and August, go on to mastering and readying the album for release. I suspect by May/June, we'll get the first single, that way the band can go out and do Festivals and mini-tours before the album's release (as they have before), play one or two new songs, then release the album in August/Sept, then do a proper album-tour in the fall/winter.

I honestly don't expect to hear ANY music until summer, with a single release, and I'd be surprised if the album comes out anytime before August. I'm a patient fan, though, because there's tons of new music out NOW and in the coming months to satisfy my need for new albums this year!

Well, I was just joking and it's QUITE possible that we will hear a G# on the new album! :lol Hadn't heard about him never transposing, though - I guess out of those 2 songs it has to be Panic Attack, as These Walls is in A minor and pretty easy to play even without transposing.

Just a rough guess based on how long it usually is from entering the studio till releasing the album, but yeah, I was thinking around Aug / Sep. I don't think their studio routine has changed much on recent albums, so I don't expect a huge shakeup there.

They are going to silently release the album in April, WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT!!

That would be a quicker turn-around than Neal Morse!!!

(Which is hilarious, because he recorded Testimony 2 during late December 2010, then released it in May, about 6 months later!).

Yes, the pics on FB just seem like a show off to satisfy the companies they're endorsing. Video snippets like Gojira did them for the latest relase with maybe only a minute of guitar shredding or drum nailing will make us all more curious....

I bet you do. :zydarscouch:

For the record, I completely agree. The thought of some skanky guitars without their g-strings does unspeakable things to my drumstick, if you catch my drift. :eyebrows:

Common misconception. The sounds at the beginning of OTBOA are SIMILAR, but definitely NOT THE SAME as the nature-y sound effects at the end of TCOT. I think many fans wanted to hear that, but I think it was important for the band to not have those links between albums any more as they were starting a new chapter in their career. The links from SFAM-SDOIT-TOT-8VM were, most likely, Portnoy's ideas, and it creates a great run of 4 albums that, with the addition of SC and BC&SL, captures a solid 6-album run of albums from the same line-up, the most any line-up of Dream Theater has created, and HALF of the band's studio discography.

Doubtful, since Jordan has gone on the record (during a Vokle Chat), that the beginning of OTBOA was taken from his own MorphWiz app, which, AFAIK, didn't exist during the recording of BC&SL.

Also, there was this discussion here a year and a half ago:
