Hopefully they don't have a song called Dream Theater
Oh hell, now I hope they do this.

Dark Castle

I'd have a strong urge to skip it if they did have a song called Dream Theater.

I have an exclusive on the chorus-

Dreeeeeeeam Theater
He's the man, the man with the midas touch
A Wizard's touch

Lucien

You get the whole "you're watching/listening to a movie" feel from the possible album cover, with the purple representing the majesty of it all.

Dark Castle

I just get the feeling I've been transported to a part of the internet that never escaped the year 2000.

VincentMDO

"Dream Theater" will be the instrumental song. Called it.

I just remembered they were making an instrumental.

Well, on the bright side, I'd rather hear that chorus from James LaBrie than Shirley Bassey.

If some song on the album is called Dream Theater, it's probably the instrumental. That said, I don't think there'll be a self-titled song.

Lucien

It WILL be the best album they've ever made. Better than I/W, Awake, SFaM, and SDoIT, with all their greatness combined.

BlackInk

I love the purple majesty logo. It has a very "fresh" feel to it. And I can certainly accept a self-titled album, even though I'm not crazy about. But most of all I'm just really happy we'll have new music in a few months.

fadetoblackdude7

You know every time DT has a new album coming out, everyone gets all excited what the album title will be and for every album I've said to my friends, "...could not even have a title, maybe it'll be self-titled..."

But I never thought they'd actually MAKE a self-titled album, especially this late in their career, and because they opted out of calling FII self-titled, calling it a cop-out. But hey, they can do what they want. I was disappointed at first when I found out it's self-titled, because DT always has such creative, cool titles for their albums.

But ultimately, it doesn't matter. Bring on the album!!!

OsMosis2259

What's all this chocolate cake that everyone is talking about? Did I miss something?

Dark Castle

I think someone's getting ahead of themselves. Unless they blow the doors wide open with new sounds and stuff they've never done before, then maybe. At best I see this being a lot like ADTOE but with crazier drumming. Not saying that as a bad thing as I like ADTOE alot, but yeah..

I can't see DT ever topping SFAM or SDOIT. But I'd love to be proven wrong, because that would have to be one hell of an album, I tell ya. :lol

In the announcement video, there's a picture of a chocolate cake tapped up in the studio with the caption: "The guitar must sound like THIS." John wanted his tone to sound "multi-layered, rich and with a perfect amount of icing on the top."

N4Player

Can't wait for the new release and it is nice to have a release date (hope it sticks). I could care less about the title or logo, just give me the "chocolate cake." I'm guessing the DVD package will have some sort of making of footage for the new album. Let the countdown begin. Exciting times ahead  :metal.

BlobVanDam

He can't have his guitar sound and eat it too.

KevShmev

Ya know, we can talk about the album title all we want, and yada yada yada, but even though the height of my fandom was years ago, it is still an exciting time when you know a new Dream Theater album is just around the corner! :tup :tup

Don't want to sound too pessimistic, but if your expectations are THAT high, then it's likely that you'll be disappointed.

Oh ok thanks! I didn't have a chance to watch that video yet so that's why.
Can't wait to check it out!

OK, if guitar is the cake, keyboard is the ice cream.  Get to work graphics people!  :lol

I'm going to go out on a completely unlikely limb here and say that the multi-layered blah blah blah explanation was a veiled attempt at saying "Gimme Eddie's famed "brown sound" from Van Halen 1".  Chocolate = brown.  VH1 = Tonal Holy Grail.

atmyne

I hope DT haven't gone "all in" with this title and the investment in all the media coverage etc. I'm deliberately not getting too hyped about this album. Maybe this will be the first time I listen to the album in full without hearing any teasers, clips or read any interviews!

I don't disappoint when it comes to new music. I was SUPER hyped about Clockwork Angels, and it's basically the best thing Rush's ever, EVER done.

The Letter M

I wonder if this is an intentional nod to GENESIS and their 12th studio album also being self-titled?

If so, GENIUS idea, I always felt there was a bit of Genesis in Dream Theater (and always wished they could cover one of their albums or songs live...except "Turn It On Again").

-Marc.

jonnybaxy

why wasn't the last one self titled seeing as that was the 'new start' or whatever?

Zook

I guess self titling an album is the popular thing to do these days.

Hey Blob, can you make a better purple majesty album cover and send it to the guys. Please.

ADToE was the transition BETWEEN Portnoy and Mangini, as Mangini had no part in the writing.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

I don't like that it's self-titled... but whatever. I'm still pumped for this.   :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal

Well it has to be at least as good as Awake, seeing as that's the album they've rewritten this time, right?

Throw a stock photo of the Rocky Mountains behind it and call the pic "Purple Mountains Majesty".
