Meh. They only got Spock back because the Genesis planet happened to "magically" bring him back to life and they luckily managed to find him as he reached the age that he died.

You could argue that the genesis device was slotted into Wrath of Khan just to bring back Spock in the next film.

There are silly contrivances in all Star Trek films. Just because the film is brand new - it gets more attention.

The Genesis device was in the script before anyone thought of brining Spock back. As the final script was written, there was never an inclination of Spock's resurrection. Nick Meyer didn't even want the final shots of the tube on the planet filmed. He was brought back because 1) Nimoy and gang had a much more enjoyable time working together on this film, and 2) Paramount saw $$ in their future.

I agree.  Sadly.  At one time, I was a huge Burton fan.  He directed some of my favorite films, "Batman" (yes, THAT Batman!!!  ), "Big Fish", "Edward Scissorhands", "Mars Attacks!"       

But he has become rather one-note, lately.  I didn't care for Alice in Wonderland or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, really.  They were "okay..."   He just seems to be becoming self-indulgent in a non cool director way.
