I'm not complainting one bit about the set list.  But without changing anything up at all, and only adding, the one thing I can think of that would have made this even more epic, if they had a bit more time, is if they added Metropolis pt. 1 to the very end right after Finally Free.
Please no. Besides PMU, Metropolis has been done to death. I like the fact that there's no IaW in the setlist (assuming they don't rotate any in) and I'd love to see a tour without those songs, just for once. They have so much other material that's been overlooked over all these years that deserves to return to the set, or in some cases, to get aired for the first time.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Are the playing along to the cd? This sounds really really weird...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi9foL202g8

No, but they have a backing track for some of the sound effects and had the backing track going exclusively for the soft section leading back into the part where the video starts.

Watching that and watching how they, especially James, seem a bit subdued during that section makes me pause and recall how technical this song is.  I'm sure they are a bit tentative right now in a live setting with it.  This is one that I think will probably have to grow on them a bit before they really feel completely comfortable and are able to really let loose and enjoy playing it live.

I also just want to say that, thanks to this show, I'm listening to LSFNY again.

It sounds like the groove comes in twice though... maybe someone forgot to turn the backing track off when the band came back in and it threw them? It's definitely weird.

I knew the orchestral part was on tape.

I hear now, it seems like they just came in a beat or two late. That part is really complicated.

No, I hear you about them not needing to include any I&W songs.  I agree.  And I wasn't throwing that out there from the perspective of needing an I&W song, and I also wasn't suggesting that anything be removed from the set to accommodate it.  I only made that comment because, for obvious reasons, the music of Scenes is so derivative of Metropolis pt. 1, and the nod at the Roseland Ballroom show where they played it right after Scenes was terrific, IMO.  So since they are paying homage to the Scenes album on this tour anyway, I think ending that with Met-1 would be awesome.  I get where you are coming from, but I still think it would be cool.

Eh, I was afraid he'd wank up that section again. Fortunately, it was pretty short. :tup :tup

YES!  :metal  When someone said JR had a "curved keyboard," I thought that might be what they were referring to.  The keyboard player from Epica uses one on the Retrospect DVD, so I had seen that instrument (or at least a similar one) there already.  I have to say, just from a fan/audience standpoint, it loos really odd and awkward.  I think the Zen Riffer is a much cooler looking instrument.  But whatever.  Still cool to see Jordan being able to come up front and move about a bit.

Just also have to echo a lot of the praise for that intro. video.  Blob, the transitions you came up with and a lot of the little plays on the artwork that you did are so cleverly done.  Bravo!

And whether it's true or not, I choose to believe that the transition from Black Clouds to ADTOE through the doorway was a nod to my DTF forum splash page art concept from the last version of the forum.

Tremendous job Blob... seriously, it reminded me of the opening of a superhero movie!  Perfect fit for our superhuman DT guys!

JP and JLB sounded rough, but first show jitters probably.  I'm sure they will warm up over the tour and be back in form.  My only disappointment was no Behind the Veil.  They played Finally Free and 1928 though so I'll forgive them.  Not that it matters, they came nowhere near me (AL) this tour so I'll miss it anyway.   :sadpanda:

The drums sound awesome you can really hear so much you can't on the album! Some good videos out there already. Love the setlist.

Did anyone post this yet? "Space-Dye Vest" live.

Man, JLB sounds strained near the end. Hopefully it will pick up throughout the tour.

Hmmm...

It definitely could have been better. I don't feel the same atmosphere surrounding the song as I do when hearing the studio version.  I knew it wasn't going to be an easy transfer to a live environment. I'm also not crazy about how James sings the song at 4:10.  I'd give it a 8 out of 10.

It just amazes me watching these videos as to how clear their instruments sound. You can hear every little nuance.  IT was great, love the way they did the middle section, it gave me goose bumps.

What the hell with James going an octave higher at the end of SDV. Flat most of the time

Otherwise, great performance, Jordan nailed it. :metal

Eeek, yeah. He didn't even need to sing it that high, which is my problem. He tried to sing it a whole octave (or more) where it it's sung on the album, and got burnt. Ugh.

JLB shouldn't sing the last Space Dye Vest vocal section an octave higher... just doesn't sound good.

Yeah. While I certainly understand wanting to spice it up a little bit for a live crowd, I don't think that is the way to do it.

sfam2112

I thought going up at the end worked, mostly, once he got a little comfortable with it. But, it was a little jolting at first.

theseoafs

I liked the octave switch -- makes the ending a bit more bombastic and exciting.  Of course, JLB was a bit pitchy at times, but that's the only problem I had with the performance.

How can it be removed?

Well, it says that the user removed it, so I doubt they were hit by a copyright claim. Maybe they weren't happy with the quality?
