Super Dude

I don't know why it struck me, but I'd love for us to share our favorite poetry/poets. My favorite poet of all time is e.e. cummings, my favorite work of his being Buffalo Bill's:

QuoteBuffalo Bill 's
defunct
                     who used to
                     ride a watersmooth-silver
                                                            stallion
and break onetwothreefourfive pigeonsjustlikethat

                                                                                                                        Jesus
he was a handsome man
and what i want to know is
how do you like your blueeyed boy
Mister Death

I just really love the cadence to the whole thing. I love everything he does (did). It's funny how book reports and things, when they allow you to truly understand the author/poet you're reporting on, give you so much more of an appreciation for the person and their work.

We already have an Official Poetry Thread.

I was of the impression that the Official Poetry was designated for sharing our work, not someone else's.

Shel Silverstein. I think this picture on the back of his books traumatized me as a lad though.

Been reading a lot of Bukowski lately.  One of my favourites:
QuoteAlone With Everybody
the flesh covers the bone
and they put a mind
in there and
sometimes a soul,
and the women break
vases against the walls
and the men drink too
much
and nobody finds the
one
but keep
looking
crawling in and out
of beds.
flesh covers
the bone and the
flesh searches
for more than
flesh.

there's no chance
at all:
we are all trapped
by a singular
fate.

nobody ever finds
the one.

the city dumps fill
the junkyards fill
the madhouses fill
the hospitals fill
the graveyards fill

nothing else
fills.

I'm not one for a lot of poetry, but when we were reading The History Boys in English class, "Drummer Hodge" (Thomas Hardy) and "1914" (Philip Larkin) stuck out as great poems to me and they are pretty much some of my favourite still.

In fact, I might just say that Philip Larkin is great. I love "Aubade" as well.
