The Stand is probably next on my list, then. My dad has reward it asks her says that all the characters are one-dimensional so I've kinda been avoiding it, but decent years have seen his and my opinions on books diverge pretty strongly, so I'll still check it out.

For what it's worth, Stephen King's It is one of my favorite books ever.

Haven't updated in a while. After Prince, I went into King of Thorns. Not as good as the first book, but still enjoyable. Then I finished the latest Johannes Cabal book by Jonathan Howard. Now reading Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons

Ooooo, I love that book! Although it's been years since I read it.

Tomislav95

A Drink Before the War by Dennis Lehane. I liked his style very much, one of the best thrillers I read. Also, action scenes are described better than in any other book I know.
Now reading Darkness, Take My Hand by the same author.

Barring the middle initial, I thought it was the girl from Modern Family.

I Googled her.  :zydar:  Her mother's maiden name begins with a B. I'm not sure if you knew this, but she's the younger sister of the kid who play Pugsley in the Addams Family movies. It's funny, if you put a photo of them together, they really do have the same face...almost.

Zydar

I finished Bruce Springsteen's autobiography last night, and I started with Brian Wilson's this morning (the musician/genius, not the baseball player).

Logain Ablar

Finished The Scarecrow by Michael Connolly. It was ok, pretty standard detective story fare.

Next up: The Lord Of The Rings. I've read this a number of times, but the last time was before the movies came out. Now, with the memory of the movies fading out a little, it will be interesting to revisit it again.

TAC

Just finished Pedro Martinez' book, and it sucked!

Just started Nathaniel Philbrick's Bunker Hill.

I guess I know what I will be reading next.
The Dark Tower :P

I'm midway through book 4 and so far I'm really digging this series. It's like a fucked-up yet perfect collision of dark fantasy and sci-fi that reads as neither both.

I liked Gunslinger, but I'm having trouble getting into Drawing of the Three. Do they get better? Or is this series like Hitchhiker's Guide, where the books steadily get worse until the end? If Gunslinger was the peak of the series, then I'll just quite while I'm ahead lol

Sacul

I'm on book 4 and The Gunslinger still feels like the weakest book so far to me. Drawing of the Three is my favorite :P

Really? Hmm, I'm about half way through and I don't find it quite as compelling as the first. Well, I'm never one to discount the opinions of complete strangers, so I suppose I'll stick with it to the end  ;)

Sacul

Are you reading the original or the revised editions?

There are revised editions?

Juts think of The Gunslinger as a backdrop to the larger tale that unfolds. The Drawing assembles the three main characters. The rest is the story of their journey.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

SchecterShredder

Yeah,  they're the revised versions.  It's all they carry at the bookstore near my office.

masterthes

Yeah, they revised the books to include stuff about a certain number so that theme was prevalent throughout the series

No I didn't, but I had heard it was actually pretty good. I never had any intention of reading it, but it was recommended.

I can't picture Pedro as someone having an intriguing career, at least not enough to fill a book. David Ortiz on the other hand. He's a much more colorful and controversial character.

I read that King planned to rewrite or revise all the books to fix continuity errors, and also to write himself out of the later books (whatever the hell that means). I guess he gave up on that after revising a few of them though, and decided they didn't need fixing.

When I read a sports book like this, to me the most interesting parts are the minor league tales. Like I said, I never would've read it, but I had actually heard good things about it. Personally I'm not a huge Ortiz fan, and would definitely not have any interest in reading that either.

Just finished with Drawing of the Three. Definitely got better and better towards the end. Better than Gunslinger, in my opinion, but not by a large margin.

Thanks, Chris! That actually really helped put the series into perspective.

So, Night Vale was a bit too bizarre for my taste, so instead I'm going to give All The Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders a try

kaos2900

Just finished the third Abarat book which completes by reading of Clive Barker. Next I'm on to The Strain series. I'm not sure what I'm going to read after that. Either going to re-read the dark tower or jump into Michael Crichton.

SchecterShredder

Re-reading another of Lee Child's Jack Reacher books while I wait for the 3rd Dark Tower to show up in the mail. This time it's Gone Tomorrow. These books are like crack to me. They're not life changing novels, but they're basically all page turners if you like the mystery action genre.
