Finished The Waste Lands by Stephen King. Excellent book. Not as good as the previous one but definitely better than the first.

I had a hard time with this one as well, but you are in for a treat with Wizard and Glass.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

The Catcher in the Rye, by JD Salinger.

One of my favorite books. I read it once a year. It only takes a day or so.

It took me some time because college, but it was very solid imo.

That scene after drawing Jake, where Roland promises not to let him fall again... man, gave me chills.

I hope his surname isn't indicative of what he says about them.

I've read this not so long ago. Really entertaining read with the focus on the classic yes era. But I would have wished a little bit more insight about the creation of Yes' musical masterpieces. Welsh writes more about the people involved and the tours.

Love Wins by Rob Bell

Very controversial book in Christian circles when it was released. I'd be curious to hear your opinion of it when you finish it up.

Oh, it's a re-read.  I read it when it was first published.

I loved it.  Just doing a re-read before picking up a fresh book.  I do that a lot.

Oh okay, cool. I loved it as well. When it came out I was working at a Christian book store (chain store) that freaked and pulled it from their shelves. Seemed very over-reactionary to me.

Is it religious fiction?

I just finished a book called Heist Society by Ally Carter. It's more for young adults but it was still interesting. It was about a group of young con men/women attempting to pull off an art heist. I think it was written really well. It's a short read, only 200 pages, but I would recommend it if you like the topic.

No.  It's an alternative look at the Biblical teachings on heaven, hell, and the ultimate fate of everyone.  It is an honest look at the text, and it runs counter to the commonly held opinions on those doctrines from most Christians.  As a result, many Christians have had very bad things to say about the author.

Yeah, that's a pretty good summary Hef.

Prog, I'd definitely recommend giving the book a shot, it gives a different perspective on things.

I recommend it.  Especially for non-Christians or former Christians who find the common Christian teachings on hell unsatisfactory or offputting.

Ah, I'm in a reading slump. The Magus is the fourth book, almost in a row I gave up on. I almost made it halfway, but I just lost interest. Maybe I need to read some shorter books for a while and more genre (i.e. fantasy/scifi) to get my groove back.

With Star Trek's 50th anniversary, I decided to give at least one of the novels a go. I was looking through Goodreads and the general consensus is that Spock's World by Diane Duane is one of the best, so let's see how that goes

I'm reading 'The continouus Katherine Mortenhoe' by D.C. Compton. A SF-novel from 1974, in which the writer introduces the concept of 'real-life television'. It's set in the near future and people rarely die of a disease anymore, so the public has become emotionally numb. When someone is diagnosed to die, the television companies offer large contracts to follow the protagonist's final weeks/days.

So bought The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo by Stieg Larsson from BookDepository, just to see if it arrived - with free worldwide shipping I was suspicious but it arrived today and looks great! Loved the movie so will probably tackle this one after Hopscotch.

Haven't seen either of the film versions, but the novel (and its sequels) are pretty good.
