You guys are probably right about the name Empath and the track's lack of inclusion. It's definitely the overanalytical side of me that finds these types of things curious rather than truly bothersome. Remedy Lane for example. The title track is a brief instrumental interlude (same with Stupid Dream but even more brief and pointless).

I'm definitely reading too much into it, but I always feel like the title track should be somewhat of a centerpiece of an album and when it's just "another song" or a meaningless instrumental, I wonder what is the actual point of making it a title track then? Empath is a cool title so you guys may be right in that it may just be as simple as him liking the title more than the song. I don't know.

It could simply be a case of him liking the word and thinking it was a cool title for the album, but ultimately either a) not liking the song enough to put it on the proper album, or b) feeling that it didn't fit within the flow and context of the album.  I wouldn't read too much into it.

This. It also wouldn't fit on the CD version of the album. Disc 1 is at 74 minutes already.

Crow

it would fit actually, just barely (by like, about 40 seconds by my math)
though i mean do CD size limits even mean anything anyways, originally they were like what 74 minutes, then 79 minutes, then 80, and now possibly even longer i really dunno anymore

Metro

You're right actually, for some reason I thought the limit was 75 minutes.  :tup

KevShmev

Even if it fits, I am not a fan of throwing it on the album just because there is space, if it doesn't fit with the rest of the album.  That's what the bonus disc is for! :P

So RVP and Beav have a new band with Byron Stroud from Strapping Young Lad and some guy on vocals. Jed from SYL was originally part of it but he left and was replaced by some other guy.
They've been talking about it for the past year and they finally released their debut single today. It's uh.... :puke:

Sounded fine. Well produced.

Would have stood a chance in 2003.

Generic 2000's metalcore I guess, and not of the memorable sort.

I don't much get in to the other projects of the people that Devy works with. They usually aren't very good. Devy seems to bring out every last bit of potential in just about everyone he has worked with on his albums.

It's not like he's actually a terrible singer though. He's just an asshole.

QuoteNot a collab. He just sings a harmony on a track. He was in the orbit while I was formulating the theme so it was important to me.

QuoteIt's literally a tiny part in a brutal song. It's more of a token of the conversations we've had than a significant part. It's just hard to overstate the realizations about what I should be focused on that I gained by hanging out for a few days with him.

I know it's cool to shit on Nickelback but I feel like people are really overreacting to him being on the album.

I was kind of wondering if Devin could make people like him, backing vocals seems like it won't be an impactful performance.

I dont follow nickelback and I have no dislike to Chad, but it seems a lot of people dont like him.  So I have kind of liked how him and Dev connected and was really looking to see if he contributed in a way to get people to really like him.  Probably wont make a difference music wise, but maybe in the documentary he explains Chad's influence which seems to be more about the music business side of things.

I don't like Nickelback or Chad Kroeger's singing. I don't mind that he's on the album. It definitely made me raise an eyebrow and I'm pretty curious to hear how he's used (if I even notice).

Indeed. News like this doesn't make me go "ew" like it would when I was a teen, but rather "oh!" as it piques my interest. I wanna see what his role is and would love for it to pleasantly surprise me.

People fucking love drama. There's the odd one out here and there but for the most part, they'll overreact to anything they possibly can. This is no different. Sure, if Chad has some soaring, horrible vocal solo in one of the songs, we'll talk. Otherwise, the ones acting like this is some heinous crime need to wait for their balls (or eggs) to drop before they open their mouths (or move their fingers).  :natalieportman: Pretty sure it's more or less confirmed he's nothing more than backing vocals. Now, how that collaboration came to be is much more interesting to me than the fact that the man himself is on the album. I'm just not sure how that connection was made unless Chad and Devy know one another and I have no idea.

This. You can not like the man or his singing or the band in general but having him on the album doesn't make Devy any less great, it doesn't make Chad any better, and it doesn't mean anything at all until we hear the album. I'm fairly certain, like others have said, that the second Devy had his name in connection with Chad's that he knew what was going to happen in some capacity. There's no fucking way he didn't. Zero chance. So I'm going to assume it's a tiny role and/or he uses Chad's voice the way he needs to. Or both. Either way, it's not nearly as big of a deal as the people who clearly are way too bored have made it out to be.

Would it be completely shocking if Devin maybe likes some of Chad's music and therefore asked him? Because almost all Devin fans seem to hate Nickelback doesn't mean Devin has to hate them too.

They're available now.

The US bundles are pretty underwhelming. I'll probably buy from the EU store.

I found it on the EU Inside Out store and while I was there, I got myself a copy of Riverside's ADHD vinyl reissue and DT's (that's Dream Theater, not Devin Townsend) new album as well.

Wow, the US bundles are trash compared to the EU bundles. You also get more in the EU bundles for less money....

Yup. Count me in as one of the people who are excited about this - I liked Nickelback a bit as a pre-teen and Chad's voice is quite alright in everything I ever heard from him (I had VH1 in the late 2000's so that's a lot of things  :lol) and I'm excited to hear him on something I'm guaranteed to like.

The first part of the Documentary got me pumped for Empath. I have a feeling its going to be polarizing. I'm interested in how loose the creativity will be, like no holds bar on anything. Who knows with Devin how things will sound.

He's an interesting cat (hehe!). I'm looking forward to what he and the rather awesome cast of players have come up with.

QuoteWe're pleased to announce that Devin has been added as main support to Avatar's North American 'Country' tour this coming May/June!
Devin will be performing acoustic renditions of select songs from his extensive repertoire and of course we'll have some of those sweet new Empath merch designs and albums on sale at the merch booth.

Looks like hes coming to me locally on a Saturday so I might check this out, no idea who Avatar is though, but I'd like to support Devin
