The "important dates in DT history" thread

I am working on a project of compiling "important dates in DT history," whether they are things like DT Day in Utah, past and present band member birthdays, particularly important or significant shows, or any other cool or obscure thing you can think of.  Whatever you've got, post it!

Well, since it's that month, how about November 17th, 1984. The day Mike Portnoy's mother passed away, which of course, ended up inspiring the lyrics for one of their most revered epics.

March 4th, 1993, the show that was bootlegged to death, then later on released through YtseJamRecords, containing the original version of "A Change Of Seasons", every song from Images And Words, "To Live Forever" and "Eve", as well as three of the best songs from their debut album. A very historic show and one of the best recorded shows out there.

Umm... I believe SDOIT was released on January 29, 2002... Let me check... YESS! I was right!

May 18, 1998 was their concert in Los Angeles where they featured a guest appearance by Bruce Dickinson doing Perfect Strangers, as well as a couple of Maiden tunes. And... Ray Alder from Fates Warning appeared on one of the songs as well that night, I think.

Breaking The Fourth Wall was performed/recorded on March 25th, 2014. Released on September 29 in the UK, 30th in the US.

Umm... March 20, 2014 was the first day of their North American leg for the Along For The Ride Tour. I don't know just how significant/insignificant these dates have to be, lol.

January 31, 1995 - DT Uncovered show at Ronnie Scott's, which provided material for the ACOS EP.

April 29, 2011 - The day Mike Mangini was announced as the new DT drummer.

Would the fact that "Live Scenes" was released on 9/11/01, and that they had to recall it and change the cover art because of the terrorist attacks be a good example of what you're looking for?

Might be a bit obscure but that was also the day in the studio that they were planning on mixing a song called Conflict at Ground Zero which they tactfully decided to change the name to The Great Debate.

In 95 the band did the sessions for BBC radio broadcast where they played live studio versions of a whole bunch of Awake songs (including, Caught in a Web, Lifting Shadows, 6:00 plus Perfect Strangers live with Bruce Dickinson which predates the LA show with Bruce 3 years later).

There are 2 dates associated with this event as the performances were recorded January 30, 1995 but not broadcast until about a week later on February 7, 1995.

I don't believe they said they were planning to work on that specific song on that day, though that was the original title.
But that was the first day that James was supposed to go to start recording vocals for the album.

February 4, 2000 - Dream Theater's concert at Palace Theater, Los Angeles, gets shut down by the police and the fire department right in the middle of The Spirit Carries On

August 30, 2000 - Metropolis 2000: Live Scenes from New York is recorded at the Roseland Ballroom in New York

October 16, 2001 - Someone already mentioned the 9/11 album cover insicent. This was the date the live album was re-released with the new cover
