Live albums are very important for me and as I said, they are THE way for me to start with a band.

Awesome, thanks for the whole explanation too, makes things a lot clearer.  Tough round though.

For me the live round has been by far the toughest - and I'm no epic hoarder either (although very,very happy with what I have there).

Pretty much all the good live albums I have (not many) are by bands on Tim's list.  Of the bands I think he might like almost none have a live album - and the few that do sound like shit , have a poor vocal etc...    I have settled on a couple of options finally but it's not an easy one.

Yeah, I'll have a search tomorrow now but I'm not that big into live albums, so it's gonna be really hard I think.

Yeah, live round is definitely the toughest. I don't listen to live albums much, so I don't have a lot of options here. I'll probably have to send something outside of Tim's comfort zone.

He might get a whole lot of growls from me yet.

I'm sorry some of you are finding the Live Round a tough one. It is actually the round that I was most looking forward to when I originally set the rounds. That is why I saved it for the end. It's basically an Open Round for any band that has a live album.


Back to Round 6 for a second.

Two people used Wild Cards. One was an EASY choice. The other was harder to decide which one to use.

Also, two people sent me songs from the SAME album!

This round is really kicking ass and as a group, is miles better than the last Open Round.

So going back to my Round 4 Open Round write ups, I wanted to modify one of them. I originally wrote this:

Well, I know how much you love this song, so you might want to stop reading here. First, this is a beautifully done song. Very deep and captivating. But it only seemed to work if I sat down and simply tried to lose myself in it.  I feel like I need to hear more around it, but as a stand alone song, this isn't something I'd go back to. Again, I felt like I was trying to hard to like it. I'd be interested to hear something a bit heavier from this album and would certainly follow up any recs you may have.

I feel a little behind the 8-ball on the live round.  Not much of a live album guy, so the ones I do have are mostly Rush.  I do have oodles of bootlegs, but they are almost all from Rush, DT, and Metallica.

As with Evermind, what I end up sending may be a bit outside your comfort zone.

I surprised to hear this, and you're not the first to say this in this thread. You're obviously a huge music fan. If a band you like releases a live album, do you skip it?? To me, that does not compute.

i have probably around 150 albums physically purchased by now, among a number of digital purchases as well, and not once have i ever bought a live album 

i mean i think i have a few as bonus discs from albums i purchased but, not many

When I was a kid, I always went for Live albums first when starting with a band. It usually had their best songs, and tons of energy. To me, a band plays. They don't record.
