So my wife put in for days off 2 months in advance and because they are shorthanded they denied her request. Though my wife's boss is going on vacation for 2 weeks. She  got a meeting with the store manager and her boss and told them she's tired of this happening to her through management changes over 8 years there.

So she told them we bought the concert tickets, booked the hotel and she is going. She brought up how flexible she is with working days and nights, weekends,  changing shifts for them and staying late yet the ones they have trouble with never have issues with time off.  They rely too much on her.

Lisa told them that she is going and they need to get a back up.  I think theyes can persuade her by denying.   It's not fair for an employee who is the most reliable and flexible.

2 days off shouldn't be a big deal. I know you've mentioned her getting a hard time taking time off before, Joe. It sucks working for assholes. I realized a long time ago that the two most important things to people are their schedules and their time off. If you can meet them even half way on these, they will do whatever you want. People's lives need to be in order, and if they know you are helping them achieve that, they will be committed to you.

As a manager it passes me off seeing mismanagement.   If we are struggling to get positions filled it's up to us to take care of filling that position if the employees gives us ample time for days off. This management team is relying too much on the good workers and putting stress on them instead of bettering the ones around them that need to meet standards.

Plus get cracking on the hiring process.   You also can put feelers to other stores to see if someone wants to pick up hours. Common management sense.

When I stepped down a couple of years ago, I made a promise to myself to not nit pick how a guy runs his store. The first guy I worked for would lose his mind over things I would definitely look the other way on, but let go things that I never would. No biggie. He was still a good manager. But the guy who replaced him, who I work for now, is a total douchebag. I know how hard I worked as a store manager, and this guy makes a mockery out of the position.
We've actually been going at it pretty good over the last couple of weeks.

I did not.  It's so fasted paced that it's from 11 am to 11 pm.  If I get the schedule, there is an hour and 1/2 between sets.  There are plenty of  restaurant/bars there if you can make the drive.

Tim, I hear ya.  It's very frustrating seeing abuse like that especially when it's my wife.

Yep.  In fact, as you come through Harrisburg, depending on which way you go, you're going to be within 10-15 minutes of me or go right by me.  I assume you're probably going to pick up I-83 south and go down.  I-81 will get you there as easily, with the added benefit of passing within 2 miles of my place.  Let me know when you're coming down and the goings on.

When you call out and let your personal life affect work, it affects me.  I've been lenient enough. Some should have lost their jobs pointing out.  Enough is enough.  It's not once in a while.  It's been months. I will inform them I am interviewing to fill their spots since they will point out.
