It may not be the popular choice but I love this album.

If we followed the popular choice, we wouldn't be on DTF in the first place, right?

As for me, prepping for next week's concert..

I just now listened to both Anciients albums at work on youtube and cannot pick between the two.  They both are great and can really tell the Opeth influence.

ozzy554

Opeth is one of the few bands of that kind that I enjoy. So i'll have to check Anciients out.

Check it out Tim, you'll love it.

EDIT:  I'm getting that weird 403 Forbidden error message at the moment in the hard rock thread when I try and post.

Too much awesomeness I guess.

I tried quoting JJ and had the same problem.

I think's Jason's 10,000th post was too much for the DTF server to handle.

this is fine enough atmospheric black metal stuff & the tribal influences don't feel like a gimmick as much as an integrated part of the sound of the album, but

it just doesn't really stir any emotions in me, i dunno. i don't mind listening to it sure but it doesn't really have any standout qualities

Still my favorite album of the year. Shame you don't love it, but atleast you listened to it.

i liked it, i mean, it's pretty solid, just doesn't really stand out so much for me

i'll probably give it another listen whenever i start putting together another big order of albums tbh

No shit right.  I even got a message that the DTF firewall was blocking my IP address.  Even still a few minutes ago.  Had to reboot my router.

I can't wait for this to come out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFX6ILGjAQM

That makes one of us.

I hope not. It sounds better than anything I've heard this year (apart from Ayreon) from this genre.

Sounds interesting. It's so weird watching little Portnoy on drums. It's like watching a carbon copy of Mike from 30 years ago.

Samsara Blues Experiment, The Long Trip.

Youtube suggested and its pretty cool and I dont even smoke anymore (Stoner music).  One of the comments was something to the effect of.....This is like Floyd and Sabbath had a baby, then ate it.

You haven't listened to much then, have you?  This was pretty run-of-the-mill prog-metal.

The issue I have with NtN is that they wouldn't be getting much/any attention - and no one would give two shits about them - if the drummer's name was Max Anderson/Jackson/Miller....

How they get the attention is irrelevant to me. It's what the music sounds like that I pay attention to. He might have got the push from his father, but they still have to make music that people want to continuously listen to.

I agree. That being said, instrumentally, I can dig what they are doing it's the vocals that really lose me.

Here is the single from the album:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usnsetwZsxc

Max is a really good drummer, I like some of the other instrumentation, but the vocals are something I probably can't get past. Dude isn't a good singer or screamer for my ears.
