What album are you listening to? v.6

You know, I think the band just isn't my thing. I like this more than the first album, but it's almost 80 freaking minutes long and no one song really makes an impact. It feels like a full album experience, but everything just kind of drags. It's not bad but it's just uncompelling, that's my first impression. It's well put together... just nothing grips me and says, "Hey, motherfucker. This rocks." Good art though! I'm 5 songs from the end and just want it to stop now. 78 minutes is way too much.

EDIT: And right after I post that, possibly my favorite tune on the album plays: "Loss." I really like this one.

The growls are aggressive but not too guttural, the words have enough clarity and enunciation to mostly understand what he's singing. There's an awesome harpsichord + dancey-synth breakdown in the song Sealing Our Fate. The Pt. 2 of the title track at the end of the record is this super triumphant, clouds-parting type of 10 minute epic. What a fucking cool album. Strongly recommended. i listened to some of this and mostly i just. don't see anything special about it. sounds very much like standard "power metal with growls" melodic death metal with a slightly proggy edge. nothing they're doing seems very exceptional. i didn't listen to the last three tracks fwiw 'cause i just got bored. comes off as just really average to me.

According to some comments I read it seems like this is the first 10/10 on Pitchfork in the last 10 years.. what that means, I don't really know or care.. but for that scene apparently it's very high regarded. Was gonna see what the hype is about soon, but for now:
