What I've listened to over the past week. That Weyes Blood album gets better each time. Listening to Rage's "Wings of Rage" again atm which came out yesterday. First time ever listening to an album of theirs actually. I don't know if I'd call it bad, but it's super generic heavy metal. Good for fans of that sound but it's been done a thousand million times already.

How was the Nils Frahm?

The Walrus

The Nils Frahm is really good imo. I know it's just a collection of his Encore EPs but as one complete package I think it rules. Particularly the back half - that has the strongest material in my opinion, some really good electronic stuff. Harmonium in the Well is another really nice (if lengthy) ambient sort of piece.

I just put in the R40 bonus disc (blurray) and watched the 1st set from the Molson Amphitheatre. I was at that show, in row J on the Lifeson side.

Yeah it's such a nice album, I really like Sweet Little Lie and Admirador.

I did Fly By Night yesterday. Really underrated. Neil's playing is amazing.

Today's Rush listening:

Harmony

I had forgotten about this one.  In the midst of my Rush-fest today, I discovered it again.  Odd 80s video aside (Hi MTV!), this song is so great.  Neil's lyrics are so poignant.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMSFqXGZ5TQ

Two absolute fucking classics:

I'm on Signals right now.  This record has really climbed the rankings for me the last few years.  I still think Countdown is weak as an album closer, but everything else is solid to spectacular.

TAC

It has really aged well for me. Great songs is great songs..

I am re-reading the Lifting Shadows book, so I'm currently listening to The Majesty Demos to get better acquainted with songs like Your Majesty and March Of The Tyrant.

Finally, a Big Hath 6-pack that is 6/6!!   :lol

Gonna go put in Time Stand Still documentary in a bit.

Now that the streak is broken:

This is... something. There are some brilliant moments on this one, but mostly it's just there.

I remember Cyril laughing at "John what's the problem, we've got to get out", this album is much worse in lyrical department almost to the point of being unbearable. I really feel for the people who are fans of the Dark Tower series on this forum, first there was this movie which was honestly atrocious and now there's that which isn't much better. This album also employed a few melodies from the previous one which would've made sense if it was Mirage pt. 2 but now that it's a different story, it doesn't make sense at all.

I mean, I'm still glad I preordered and supported these guys and got my name in the booklet, but yeah, this one is underwhelming.

or, as our British friends would say, The Pure Shite

It's actually not that bad but ehh, just not impressive.

No... it's pretty bad.  Losing Kiri really hurt their lyrical quality.  As a concept album, these lyrics are worse than The Astonishing.  I've read the Dark Tower series twice, and I still don't get the connection between this album, and that story.

Back to the Rush.... I can pretty much just quote Big Hath's listening:

I gave the Pure Shine one listen and walked away. They tried to bend Mirage pt2 into something completely different, and it just didn't work. I also agree with Jingle, losing Kiri hurt them tremendously.

Lowdz

Rush, lots of Rush.
Stated at Fly By Night, currently at Power Window. I'll be jumping from Counterparts to Clockwork Angels though.
