Crap, up to 12,000+ now.

I can't describe what I feel. I lost my some of university friends and their families. All I can do is to watch and follow the news and it pains me.... it makes me useless. Me and some of my friends organize some medicine and medical care equipment for babies and children from Istanbul thanks to my institution. There is a huge help from many countries around the world too.

I know in DTF there is so many people around the world. I thank you all, all your countries, your kindness, your considerate.

That's awful, sorry to hear that.

The number continues to go up and I believe already surpassed the 1999 numbers  :(

The destruction is crazy, I can't imagine what it's like over there and the death toll keeps rising.  So sad to see / read the stories.  Very sorry Serox for your losses and the struggles that I can't possibly comprehend you are going through.

Heading home. Still sore as a Mutha,F...

Summary of my day:

take 05 Town & Country in for oil change and alignment
after a few hours, call shop back about an ETA

"Well, your transmission's about to go out, it's going to cost about $9000 to repair."
*have heart attack*
*have another heart attack*
*ten minutes later, receive another phone call*

"Sorry about the confusion. I thought you were the owner of the other Town & Country that's in here. Yours is fine."

Edit: I didn't inquire further and I'm wondering if I heard wrong, but I swore he said "9809" to replace the transmission. Why the hell would it cost that much to replace a transmission, anyway? Maybe he said 980.09?

$9000 seems very high to me. I think the higher-end of consumer transmission replacements is in the $4000 realm before labor, but on a 17yo mini-van? It shouldn't be anywhere near that. Unless they need to do a ton of other labor like remove the engine, exhaust, and suspension in the process, I have no idea how they could get to $9000.

hefdaddy42

Yeah, I would have thought around 5 grand, all-in, or less.

If you're in my neck of the woods, I know someone who would probably do it for a fraction of that cost.

Yeah, but then he'll just find that something else is wrong with the car.

He better not, since the car will likely be in my garage while he's working on it!  :)

Cool Chris

I keep getting these postcards in the mail saying if I leave a 5-star review from some recent Amazon purchase I will get an Amazon gift card for some specified amount. Are these legit?
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

If they are specific to a purchase you made, most likely yes. Small vendors on Amazon use this to get high reviews, and increase their visibility.

Though I would be careful. Sometimes is not worth the $5 or $10 gift card. If the amount is higher than that, I would be questioning it.

ReaperKK

I think I remember reading about it also being against amazon policy to buy reviews and a seller can be banned for it.

Cool Chris

I checked them and one is for a $30 gift card and the other is for a $40 card, from different sellers. Neither of the products they want me to review cost that much.

Aww, shucks. It's nice to be missed.  :blush  The feeling is mutual. So, how goes it?

Good. Just getting older and trying not to get fatter...you know.

Semi retired now, so a bit of traveling, a bit of playing with my grandchildren, a bit of golf...etc.

Prog Snob

Where are you traveling to? How many grandchildren?
