This Back From The Dead album by Waysted.........it might just be me, but this feels like Waysted doing UFO. I could hear Phil singing all of these songs and this having the UFO name on the album and I'd be none the wiser. It lacks the edge of the earlier Waysted albums.

I am enjoying the album so far, sans Breakfast Show. That song is just stupid.

Holy shit! I'm listening to the Mogg & The Sign of 4 album. :omg:

Jesus, for me this is way better than the last two albums from UFO proper. Phil sounds so youthful, poetic, and inspired. I love that he does his own backup vocals. The band sounds great, and are really playing for the song.

It's available on Amazon. I'll finish listening to the album but after four songs, this is an urgent purchase.

I bought that Waysted album but haven't listened to it yet.

It's not very good. The Plot is ten times better.

MSG with Hamm and Colson.  Will definitely have to check that one.

Now that is cleaning out the closet. Lots of activity in the early 2000's. It was a great time to be a UFO fan, honestly.

Would love if you guys drop the needle on some of it.

If you choose to not check anything out, that's cool too. Again, I really wanted to let everyone catch their breath this week, and then it's on to Vinnie Moore on Monday. Running concurrent to the Vinnie Era, Michael really breaks loose with a ton of material.

I'm going to try to dig into some of that this afternoon.

It actually does sound pretty good. I like it well enough, but they totally butchered the setlist, leaving out the Making Contact songs. And where in the hell did Lonely Heart come from? :lol

It's true! Also Eletric Phase and Doing It All for You: :omg:

Well, they must be from a different show (I'll check the booklet). So, if they were selected from different shows, I think they should made it a double LP, with all the songs from Chapman's era played on those tours from 80 to 83.
According to setlist.com,  Electric Phase was played in only one show of that tour:
https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ufo/1983/gaumont-theatre-ipswich-england-1bd8e108.html
And Lonely Heart and Doing... weren't played on that tour:

Listening to Headstone now. ..by far, the best live recordings of Chapman's era.

I actually have the bootleg to the Hammersmith show..

...and the Ipswich show..

The boot to the Hammersmith show is really good, and while the Ipswich show is of lesser quality, it is raucous as hell.

I found my copy of the original Headstone.

And the double gatefold opened up to a UFO Family Tree.

Just did. They neutered the guitar during the verses and then added the slide during the chorus, which wasn't really needed.

Like I said, it's like they turned Waysted into a UFO clone. I know I make that sound like a bad thing, but it isn't. Waysted should be edgier, dirtier and grittier.

Really cool pics of Headstone, TAC! The CD version of it is virtually "unseeable".
About the live performances, it's amazing how UFO pulled some strong performances at that tour (I suppose that those recordings didn't have any post-overdubs because UFO was done). UFO seemed a total a trainwreck at the time, see what Billy Sheehan said about the Athen's show and that period, citing as one of his worst gigs ever:

Looking forward once we've been through all the albums to come up with a UFO top 10 or 20.  Been thinking about a list already.

Alright, having a crack at this Mogg and the Sign of 4.

This first song reminds me of Soundgarden or something!

EDIT:  Hmmm...few songs in, not digging it all that much.

On another note, I watched the Rockpalast show from 1980 on YouTube yesterday.  I really liked Chapman on this one, even the old stuff.

I'm really appreciating Chapman's work on Save Your Prayers.  I'm going back to that a bit.  That's a great album.  Check his solos on the outro of Heroes and the main solo of So Long.  Really tasteful guitar player he was.  A shame he's now gone.

He's great on that, Kade. And especially on the old stuff. He really adds a lot of life to those songs. His playing really gave them a different personality. They just felt more raw, and for songs like Shoot Shoot and Doctor Doctor, even Only You Can Rock Me, I thought he was perfect for those songs. Plus, the dude just oozed cool.

He has a really nice 'freestyle' type of playing if that makes sense.  Raw is a perfect description mate of his playing.  it's raw but a little technicality in there too.  His stage presence was indeed excellent.  That super long note at the end of Love to Love makes him look fucking badass up there.  Such a long note, but like he doesn't give a shit and just keeps holding it, yet it's perfect for the song.  I hated his interpretation of the first solo in Love to Love (you know that beautiful Schenker melody), but have come around to what he did with it.  I think it's quite nice.

I'm super glad you included the extra stuff mate.  It's a great album.

I watched a bootleg last night too from the Save Your Prayers tour. I think they were supporting Status Quo I read, and it was blistering.  Great stage presence from both Pete and Paul on that one.  Paul was a bit sloppy, but the rawness as you said is undeniable here.
