Finally got around to Baby Driver today.  The story itself wasn't anything special, super predictable and cliche.  But I loved the cast, their performances and the overall style of the film.  Best part is how it's like a crime/action/musical.  The popular music selections are creatively spliced in to be more than a score. Kinda reminded me of GotG how we listen along with Peter/Baby's music players.  It's cool how the sfx and action were synced up to the music as well.  It's unique.  I recommend it.

This is my problem with Edgar Wright's movies lately. The Cornetto trilogy is fantastic, as is Scott Pilgrim, but Baby Driver and Last Night in Soho are just ok. Both have very weak and very predictable plots. And the best parts of those two movies are the music sequences, which makes me think maybe he'd just be better off directing music videos.

Wow, I thought Baby Driver was pretty good.

I watched that last week, thought it was great.

Finally saw The Flash.

Not terrible. I didn't love it and a good amount of it was not good, but overall it was a decent movie. Not nearly as bad as people made it out to be. Though I rarely let bad CG ruin much for me.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. Funny and heartfelt.

MirrorMask

Dungeons and Dragons - Honor Among Thieves.

Pretty cool overall, nothing to write home about but I liked it.

Finally got to see Oppenheimer yesterday.

Very nice old cinema from the 1920ties.
With small tables between the seats.

It was an afternoon tea showing so we had sandwiches, scones and more, plus tea and a glass of Cava.

Interresting to see this side of the story.
Saw the other side of it this summer in Hiroshima where the museum brought me to tears.

Some of the visions Oppenheimer had almost brought me back there.

Interresting and enjoyable film about a horrible subject.

Unfortunately, I did.

By the look on his face, apparently the Rock didn't like it any more than you did.

I'm a big comic book guy (mostly Marvel) and I usually still try to watch the DC movies even if they're not really my thing. I was prepared to really hate the Snyder cut of the JL but I ended up really digging it. So I'm usually open to being surprised. I was also surprised by The Flash.

But for some reason I just have zero motivation to ever watch Black Adam or Shazam 2. And I really liked the first Shazam.

I'm generally very forgiving of a lot of shortcomings in comic book movies, I don't mind the issues as long as I get some form of entertainment out of it. With regards to DC movies I also liked the Synder cut of JL and enjoyed all his DC movies for better or worse.

I liked the Flash movie and was kinda surprised at the cameos and was mostly entertained by the movie. Shazam 2 had some really good parts and was obviously not as great as the first one but I thought it wasn't that terrible like reviews made it out.

Didn't enjoy Black Adam that much, maybe my weariness of the Rock is showing but he was not charming or fun in that movie at all. I do enjoy him in both Jumanji movies. Though probably my favorite bit of his is when he was on SNL and played an evil henchman making a robot.

Didn't care much for WW84 either, it started out quite well, first scene in the mall was fun but then the rest felt just blah.

JediKnight1969

Barbie

What a pleasant surprise! Very good.

I don't know what it is; I grew up a DC kid.  LOVED the Neal Adams artwork of those early 70s Batman comics.  I loved Green Lantern - Neal Adams, then Mike Grell - and I loved the cross-over titles like Brave and the Bold, and what not.  My Marvel was limited to Fantastic Four, though I had anthologies from Spider-man and Dr. Strange.

And in the movies... it's just the opposite. I really got into the Marvel universe, even the characters I didn't care for in the comics (Iron Man) and the only one that sucked was the one I liked the most in print: Fantastic Four.  I WANT to like the DC stuff, but they keep f-ing it up.  I REALLY liked the Batman v. Superman, but Wonder Woman didn't do much for me.  I really like Zachary Levi, but the ads for Shazam! didn't even pique the slightest interest.  I suppose I will watch the Snyder JL at some point, but... I don't know. They're missing something for me.

I'd imagine the Snyder cut would be between 3 to 3 & 1/2 hours and I enjoyed it so much more than the theatrical cut.

The Flash movie was enjoyable.

Yeah I've been watching the DC movies that I never got around to seeing. The Flash, Shazam 2, Black Adam, next up is Suicide Squad, then Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, and Blue Beetle whenever that hits Max.

Didn't love The Flash, Shazam 2 was about as good as the first(pretty good), and Black Adam was a dud. I suspect the rest will be just as unremarkable.

Oh, so YOU were the one.

Ugh. Still shocked by how off the rails that movie went so quickly.

My DCEU rankings so far...

1. Zack Snyder's Justice League
2. Shazam!
3. The Suicide Squad
4. Shazam! Fury of the Gods
5. Aquaman
6. Wonder Woman
7. Man of Steel
8. Black Adam
9. The Flash
10. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
11. Suicide Squad

Not touching the theatrical version of Justice League because why bother?

I dug that movie.  I don't quite get the scene in the desert with Batman, I'll give you that, but the fight scene as Batman is going for Martha Kent is my single greatest superhero movie fight scene ever.  LOVED it.

But Suicide Squad is a case in point:  I have already cleared this with my wife: if Margot Robbie says "jump", I say "how high?" and yet even her presence can't redeem that movie/those movies.  I can't stand Ike Barinholtz, so there's that.  And I'm kind of over The Joker now; ever since Heath Ledger, it seems that "playing the Joker" is the new version of "playing a handicapped person" for some actors to show their chops.  I get that he's nuts but there's only so many variations on that that are interesting.  I really like Jared Leto, but it brought nothing to the table for me.

Adami

I'll agree that the warehouse or whatever fight scene was sick.

I think that was a spectacular miscalculation:  The Rock has been coasting on his charm, then he takes on a much more dour/serious character that doesn't make use of his strengths.

I re-read Grell's run on Green Arrow once every couple of years.  One of my favorite runs in comics.

Birds of Prey.

I have no memory of this movie coming out, but it exists. I've never been a Harley Quinn fan, so this movie was more annoying to me than anything.

Grappler

Watch Peacemaker on HBO/Max.  It's perfect and it gives us a hilarious, metalhead superhero that isn't afraid to tell the Justice League members to go fuck themselves.

It's the only DC show/film I've seen that I fell in love with from the start.  It made me love John Cena as well.
