Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Amongst Thieves. Such a blast to watch and gave me Guardians of the Galaxy/Thor Ragnarok vibes in terms of the style of action and humor. Also as someone not aware of the D&D world there were several times when I thought "damn, they're rattling off a lot of names of video games."

MirrorMask

I saw Barbie. I liked it! fun movie and I really didn't feel "offended" or anything, it's a fantasy story where both parties, Barbies and Kens, learn that coexistance is better than systematic oppression of the other half, was I supposed to feel indoctrinated or whatever?

Loved also how the movie doesn't take itself terribly seriously, especially at the breaking of the fourth wall part where Barbie says she doesn't feel beautiful enough and a voiceover goes "Note to self: casting Margot Robbie might not be the best way to prove this point"  :lol

I went down a Wikipedia rabbit hole of stories based on selling one's soul to the devil and ended up watching a movie called Shortcut to Happiness.  It has a sordid history and was one of the biggest box office bombs ever.  While it was clunky, it wasn't as bad as I expected (except that Jennifer Hewitt was pretty bad as the devil (not so mention looking dangerously scrawny).

Crossroads, Bedazzled and The Devil's Advocate will be coming soon.

I have a movie to recommend, but mentioning it in this context would be a spoiler.

Samsara

Anyone see the latest installment of Equalizer? Thinking about going this Saturday.

Excellent movie! I'm a fan of the first 2 and this is as good.

Not all that worried about spoilers (I've already seen the three movies I mentioned, so I wouldn't mind having something in the genre that I haven't seen), so recommend away.

I wouldn't go all the way to excellent, but I saw it on Saturday and enjoyed myself. I hadn't seen either of the first two, but an 8 minute summary video on YT gave me more than enough backstory to get by just fine.

I thought the first Equalizer film was pretty good.  The second one was good as well, but a little less so.

OK, then, if you haven't seen it already, I recommend Angel Heart.

Wow, I haven't seen that in 30 some years!

Just took a quick look at the Wikipedia article.  Definitely not something I would have watched back in 1987 or sought out after the fact.  It's on my list now, though.

Angel Heart is an awesome movie, haven't seen it ages. You get to see a young good looking Micky Rourke. The movie gives the same kinda vibes as Jacob's Ladder.

Dream Team

Heart of Stone starring Gal Gadot. Pretty generic spy thriller.

I might revisit this as well.   Angel Heart was one of those movies that had so much baggage around it upon release (the X-rating, the casting of Lisa Bonet) that it sort of overwhelmed the movie for me and I didn't bother.  I was also in college then, and this would only have been a 'date movie' for me, and it didn't really sell as a 'date movie'.

Orbert

I remember the hoopla about Lisa Bonet (eldest daughter on The Cosby Show, one of the most "wholesome" shows on the air at the time), but don't remember anything about the rating.  Didn't realize it was originally X.  I thought Lisa was cute, but wasn't going to go out of my way to see the film just for a glimpse of her hidden goodies.  That's what the Internet is for.  And Mickey Rourke used to be pretty cool, but again, not gonna go out of my way to see a film just because of him.  So I've never actually seen Angel Heart.  I guess it's pretty good?

faizoff

If you like noir movies dealing with occult themes it's a great flick. I was just reading about the Lisa Bonet thing, it appears she asked Bill Cosby's blessing before taking the role and he was ok with it. But afterwards criticized that the movie put her in a stereotypical role. Either way big risk for her at the time I think.

Not a lot of pics readily available on the internet in 1987, though.  ;)

Orbert

Damn, was it that long ago?  I mean, you're right, but I know I've seen some stills.  Must've been many years after the fact.  And they also confirmed that I made a wise choice nice going to see that movie.

yeah that's definitely fair. for me the draw is the increasingly unrealistic plot-lines centering around the jigsaw character. as the movies go on the suspension of disbelief is pushed further and further lol

The original Amityville Horror and the first Exorcist terrified me as a kid.

My cousin and her family (and my aunt before her, going back to my earliest memories as a kid) live in Amityville - about a half mile from the house at 112 Ocean Av. (now 108 Ocean Av.).  By the time the movie came out, I was aware that my aunt lived in Amityville, and I asked my mother if there was a connection.  Knowing my mother, I'm sure she diverted the discussion and didn't directly answer me.
