Yeah, I picked up on that about 5 seconds after I hit 'post'

Man, I don't know about the rest of you, but Monday's are hard.

They usually are, but as a teacher on the first Monday of summer break, not today :lol

FYI to the fellow DT heads. JR is officially laying down Keyboards for the album. He posted on his Patreon that he's starting with the most difficult parts first. Laying down grand piano tracks. I'd post the actual post, but outta respect to him liking to keep his Patreon private I just gave the rundown.

What are we thinking as a release date for this album?

I remember back in 2006 G3 tour JP had played the main riff of Constant motion, which was before Systematic chaos even came out.
Not doubting you, but where in the setlist did he play it? Are you aware of any YouTube footage? Would love to see it!  :)
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

The singles have to be out before the tour begins but I would not be surprised if the album is not.

I had seen the videos from the G3 tour and when DT released SC i made the connection that he was playing a preview of Constant Motion before anyone had heard it.
I tried a fast YT search but i didn't find anything, maybe they are deleted, who knows.

Right on. Just to confirm - it was from the 2006 G3 tour, correct? I saw them on the G3 tour in 2007 but don't recall anything like that. Then again, I don't think I've ever really listened to any bootlegs from that tour, either.

Interesting that I also have this recollection, even that I saw a YouTube video with that CM snipnet. I was at the G3 show in Rio in 2006 and it wasn't played there though. I did some research on YouTube and I could only find the G3 live in New York in 2007 and apparently John also didn't played it.

ReaperKK

If I remember correctly JP only did the little preview at one show and it was a spur of the moment thing. I remember seeing the video on the JP forums way back in the day.

Mosh

FWIW I remember seeing a preview of the Constant Motion riff during the G3 era as well, but couldn't tell you what video it was from, just that it was something on YouTube. But maybe it's just Mandela effect.  :lol

Apparently the album name is Dream Theater
I don't like that, because they already did it and it sounds like "in fact this is the real dream theater, forget the other one"

Not sure if you are joking or not, but that's most likely not true? Having MP back in the band should mean DT will have good album names again (those MM era names have been average at best) and at this point in time information like that would be secret, since really nothing has been confirmed yet, and I am not sure they even know the name themselves? 😁

It's been quite some time since we had an update from the studio.
Last time it was JP finishing tracking and it was about time JM started his own parts.
Since then we know JR is back in the studio for the keys, but we don't know if the bass is done and if the (or some) lyrics were written.
I guess James hasn't really recorded anything yet but i am speculating at this point.
I think the way the band works is each of the members tracking separately, and not all at the same time.
So unless all the other 4 guys are done with their instruments, JLB isn't going to start recording.
Hopefully we will have an update before July.

Pretty sure [someone] posted this same info somewhere else in this thread. Probably has the same source. At least I remember discussing it at some point.

Where are you getting this from?

It's all part of the plan for MP to come back and remove JLB from the band and then move to Seattle.  But first they must make another Self titles album, since of course the one with MM on it, can't possibly be legit.

Mosh

IMO it's not even worth serious discussion, but I have a hard time imagining the record label even agreeing to release a second self titled album. Can you imagine the marketing headache that would create? Also a real headache for Petrucci to explain why all of a sudden the last decade of the band is meaningless. A big part of the DT12 promo cycle was Petrucci talking about how this was the definitive version of Dream Theater. It was long enough ago that they don't have to acknowledge that or be asked about it in interviews, unless they decided to have a second self titled album.

Which, by the way, was kind of a goofy idea the first time they did it.

No, you see it will be called Self-Titled 2: Porntoy Boogaloo

All future albums will simply be titled Dream Theater.  They won't have the band's name on the cover or any listing of songs, etc.

In reality, the album will be called OCTABARNS!!!
Feelin' kinda spooky.

They should call the rest of their albums Smell The Glove featuring Love Pump.

If I was a member I would get the fans involved in naming the album. Narrow it down to say 3 or 4 and poll it! How cool would that be?
