Looking through it I like the top bit.
After a while it gets quite blurry.
I think I might just send the list as is.

That's kind of my point.  I mean, it's a great excuse to revisit the catalog and may run through some albums I haven't listened to in a while, but getting that picky about say songs 70-80 and their placements, with the amount of lists and tastes that will be submitted, is it really going to matter to the end result?

  I mean, I know if you've totally taken a turn with a band and a few of their albums over the years it's a decent exercise.  I'll have to pull up my old list and properly look at it.  I'm sure there will be a few headscratchers in there.

It's funny though, songs just get to you at random times and fall off the wagon just as quick which obviously obscures perceptions in the need to redo a list.  That will always have an influence with certain placements of songs during doing a list at that precise moment in time.

Ok, step 1 is done.  I've eliminated enough to get down to the Top 101, and have grouped them into 1/3rds, and then 1/3rds again so that I have 9 blocks of 11 or so songs.  I'll take a pause, then get to stack ranking each block, and voila.

Then I'll pull a SwedishJazzoSphere and listen myself into analysis paralysis!

But to answer Luke's question, why don't you rank the individual parts and fit them into your list as you like, then average out your rating value for them and then place the entire 40 minute track in that averaged position?

One reason I was hoping for the 8 tracks separately. When I want to listen to SDOIT, I almost never think "I want to listen to the song Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence", it's usually "let's listen to Solitary Shell or War Inside My Head". I get the logic of sticking to ranking the entire thing as a song, but I just think it doesn't practically work IMO.

I'm never been a great lover of the album, or song, but it will make the lower half of my list (maybe creep into the upper half). It's hard to compare to individual songs though right.

Look.at something like Regression (which currently ranked fairky close to 6DoIT). It's not really a song, just an intro, but I really like it. Comparing it to 6DoIT is kinda impossible. I'll end up just going with my gut, so it's just an observation, but an interesting one.

I guess I'm wired differently, but I have never understood this question.

I rank it like I rank all the other songs.  By how much I like it compared to the other 99.

If I like 6DOIT better than The Mirror, I rank it higher than The Mirror.  But if I like it less than I like ACOS, I rank it lower than ACOS.
