Damn.  Dominici's O3 Trilogy is amazing.  Gonna spin that today for sure.

Do you recommend 03 over 02? Obviously you do... but I've just heard a couple tracks off of all of the trilogy, so I'm just wondering why you like 03 the most.

Are you asking about 03 Part 2 or 03 Part 3? All 3 are called 03. I definitely think Part 3 is the best. More inspired. Band had longer to gel.

Polarbear

Not much I could add, that hasn't already been said by others..

RIP Charlie. Hugely important part of the bands history.

Isn't it O3 and not 03? Maybe using 0 instead of O is where the confusion stems from using 02.

Just finished a spin of WDADU and honestly it's aged fairly well for me, musically speaking. A very strong debut from DT, Dominici included. I haven't listened to those O3 albums in a while. I may have to rectify that this weekend in honor of Charlie.

RIP Charlie. Very sad to lose a member of the DT Family.

Ha. Didn't realize I was doing that. Typing on a phone at work. I'm being bad. But yeah, O3 the element or something

Sad news. I think he did great on WDADU considering he was asked to sing completely out of his range/style.

I never cared for the first O3 album, but I revisited the other two either early this year or very late last year and really enjoyed them. Will definitely listen to WDADU and O3 parts 2 and 3 (the real trilogy for me) soon in his honor.

RIP Charlie. MP shared this footage from the Charlier era this morning, pretty cool watch.

O3 - I think more correctly, O3 - is ozone, an allotrope (a different form) of oxygen.

Thanks. And yeah, it's all part of the concept of possible world destruction with that element being used in malicious ways.

Also, let's not forget Charlie's performance on WDADRU. Personally I think that version of To Live Forever is the best. Very cool version of Metropolis as well.

gzarruk

That version of Metropolis with Charlie and Derek is my favorite live version of the song. Really like how both singers compliment each other nicely there.

Charlie was singing in a more natural range too and he still nailed it.

Wow, I was in the middle of watching "I can remember when..." (the docu. that MP linked) just last night. Then I woke up to this news. So very sad, R.I.P. Charlie. Carpe Diem.

This feels like a strange reinforcement of the band's decision to reunite sooner rather than later. Every breath leaves us one less 'till our last.

I'll be listening to WDADU and O3 today at work.

Oh man, OT, but JP's explanation of the story behind The Killing Hand is amazing (and quite funny at the end).

RIP Charlie

I believe that he used to pop in here if I remember correctly, maybe 10-15 years ago.  He always seemed like a great guy.

krands85

Sad news, RIP Charlie.

Always liked his solo albums, I'll be giving them a spin in his honour.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Sad news.

James LaBrie is the voice of Dream Theater, but Charlie did a great job on his only album with the band. I always liked WDADU.

I'm sad to hear this.

IgnotusPerIgnotium

Shocked..I mean it really came out of nowhere..May he Rest in Peace as he wasn't that old. His legacy will remain as the first voice of DT.

Sad news indeed... DT was already showing its greatness at his time in the band. :heart
About the documentary, it would really nice if they made available all the video from live performance, great bootleg with a great historical value!

"Will the blind have sight in the Afterlife?"

I truly hope he's in peace right now. Dominici had a wonderful voice and I love When Dream and Day Unite.

I hope there will be a lyrical phrase in #16 to honor him.

I think playing a song from WDADU on the next tour is a better tribute, be it Status Seeker or Afterlife, the two DT songs he contributed lyrics to, or Only a Matter of Time, arguably his best vocal performance in DT.

Just 24 hours ago MP posted his annual remembrance of the death of his mother, stressing his "Carpe Diem" message and how you should tell your loved ones how you feel 'cause you never know when you won't be able anymore to....

EPIC Outro

I hope they acknowledge him on their next tour. Play a song from WDADU and maybe incorporate some footage of Charlie into the video presentation. Afterlife would be very fitting.

RaiseTheKnife

Charlie was always gracious to talk with fans at DT shows.  I consider myself lucky to have seen him perform live at the  reunion show, where in-house, he sounded quite good.  His openness to share stories about his time in the band made for some meaningful memories.  Charlie, may you find solace in the afterlife.

Related to that, you can bet there will be a dedication in the liner notes of the next album for Charlie. It would be nice to see them honor him on the next tour, be it with a song, or even a flashback video before or during the concert.

RIP Charlie  :heart

I will have to check the O3 albums that apparently shouldn't be missed.

Infinite Cactus

Man, WDADU has been my third favorite Dream Theater album since 2004 when I first got into them. I love Charlie's voice. I just played Afterlife on guitar yesterday for fucks sake. This sucks.....

PowerSlave

I seen MP's post on Facebook while I was on my lunchbreak today. Some select tracks from the first album got pumped through the car speakers on my way home at the end of the day. I don't visit that album very often, but every time I do I get reminded about how absolutely stellar some of those songs are.

My hopes are that when the next tour starts a couple of the songs from that album are added to the setlist in honor of him.

Cool Chris

Charlie, thank you for helping this ship we know as DT leave the harbor under a strong wind. We aren't here without you as part of that foundation that was laid all those years ago.

I hope and expect the guys to pay their respects to Charlie in the DT16 CD booklet and on tour either via comments from the guys, a video tribute, or something of the sort. But, and this is in no way a slight at Charlie, I'd rather they don't play a WDaDU song just for him*.

*I'd rather they not play a song from WDaDU regardless.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

I petition for the infamous tattoo as DT16 cover.

I only recently started to wonder what that first Dream Theater album would sound like if Dominici go to sing in his natural range. I've only heard a few songs from his solo albums and he sounded good.

https://blabbermouth.net/news/former-dream-theater-singer-charlie-dominici-dies

That article has an interesting story I've never heard before: Dominici's own take on his departure from Dream Theater. I never knew it was a mutual thing.

Wow, what a roller coaster this past month has been, I've still not quite processed MP returning and then this happens.  I haven't listened to WDADU in quite a long time, but I'll probably need to spin it in his honor soon.
