Presumably either JLB missed a cue, or the cue never came. Assuming he didn't miss the cue (based on his mic comments, it seems that way) then I don't know what else could have possibly happened. Ergo, my guess that he wasn't cued, which means it was a staff member's fault. Hence my comment.

Man he could've handled it way better, like just getting in and trying to sing, or say he had an issue with his inner ears between songs.

Does James take his inner ears out or just not listen backstage?

I think I might sell my ticket if this were the case. Unfortunately I'm seeing the first night of the tour so only one way to find out.

Wouldn't you hear the band starting to play if you're backstage? Or notice that you're the only one left in the break room or whatever? I would be disappointed if I was there in the crowd, looking at it from afar through a video it looks pretty funny though.

Proof at least that there's definitely no piped in vocals  :rollin

Joking aside, little incidents like this remind me of the beauty of live performance without any backing tracks to fall back on. Just a group of highly skilled musicians doing their thing.

I love the way JP is looking over his shoulder for him, MP starts looking, Jordan joins in as well. JMX obviously oblivious to it all, spanking the plank.

I think it proves to a certain point they might stay in their own spaces during breaks and it can be very strong sound isolated  :lol

What a show in Budapest last night. It was my 9th DT show overall, but my first with MP since 2009. And that was the same arena with the same group of friends. As the song says, This is the life.  :metal

The band was on fire, I loved the interplay between JP and MP. JM was more isolated than usual, though, he mostly made contacts with his tech, but they were cracking jokes between the songs. It was funny seeing him laugh like that. And JLB gave it his all, he's a champ when it really comes down to it.

That moment of coming in late after the break was hilarious. The intermission appeared to be shorter, God only knows where he got stuck. I hope the guys found it as funny as we did. 😅

Highlight: Octavarium, obviously.

Zantera

The scenario of the other 4 guys walking on stage going "Is that everyone?" -"Yeah I don't see anyone missing" is pretty funny. I've had it happen a few times at shows with the opening song where the band has a longer instrumental intro and then the singer kinda comes running out last second to not miss their vocals. Me and my dad jokingly refer to this as the singer had some bad tacos before the gig and they're running straight from the bathroom to make it on time.  :lol

But yeah after an intermission does seem a bit weird. You'd think everyone in the band gets the 'go ahead' signal so they know when the time has come. Even if JLB went out for some fresh air or whatever happened, you'd think he would get the memo.

True that, you don't even want to hear the story of how I accidentally ruined my Dream Theater jersey at Phish Mexico!

Extremely jealous of everyone getting to have such a great time. More European dates keep getting announced, still no word on Asia, and I don't think Australian gigs are overly likely.

My impression has been that the US run that starts in February will be a continuation of the 40th anniversary tour with largely the same setlist as in Europe right now. It'll only be after they double back to Europe that we'll see a major setlist change with all of the new album and whatnot.

TheHoveringSojourn808

if they were gonna do 12SS entirely it would just be for one show (I would hope), not an entire tour (leg) of it

Not gonna lie, I'd prefer they didn't. Mike scratched that itch with Shattered Fortress back in 2017, I was there, it was special. But why disregard how special it was by redoing it with Dream Theater?

That was my thought process as well.  Considering how loud DT is, how did he not hear them starting the song?  And Night Terror doesn't have any singing until over two minutes into the song.  A bit strange for sure, although it could have totally been a case of him thinking he still had time to pinch one off and then when they started sooner than he was expecting, he was already at the point of no return and had to finish up and wash his hands (hopefully :lol) before hitting the stage.  That does seem like the most likely scenario, as joyous as it is to think about.

Good to see that the funny stuff is back! MP making chicken noises, apocalyptic James Labrie, JLB being late on stage  :rollin

It's telling that this happens with a band like DT where the vocalist obviously isn't the main attraction but all the other instrumentalists are just as important. Usually JLB leaves the stage during long instrumental sections but this time he wasn't notified they had even started. It cracks me up.  :lol  Feel bad for him though, I'm sure he must've been pissed as hell (and rightfully so).

Yeah, he was obviously not cued in. I'd be upset too

I want to hear 12SS but maybe just for one night or two. Especially I want to hear Repentance from James. If I recall correctly he said on one of his interview Repentance is one of the hardest song to perform.

I was at the show with one of the only (or the only?) performances of it. Prog Nation 2008, at Terminal 5 in NYC. They had MA come out for his spoken word part as well

I was there for it as well, and I just don't think that the songs work that well as a suite. It was cool to see as a one time thing, but there's a lot more variety in dream theaters catalog that I would like to see covered rather than have an entire set dedicated to stuff that more or less is the same.

TheBarstoolWarrior

The full 12SS live sounds like a very self indulgent thing to do, if you're MP.

I personally wouldn't be interested (or enjoy) to hear a huge chunk of a show dedicated to those songs. I can always just listen to those as a playlist, if I wanted to hear them in chronological order. Would much rather hear a wider, more diverse representation of their discography live.

I think it's an only for a 2nd night in the same place kinda deal. the Glass prison already has to be a mainstay in the setlist, because fans would riot if that one only gets played once  :rollin

Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

I'm not sure what the fake James is referring to, but I'd imagine doing those vocal harmonies at the end aren't easy. Lots of weird chords and changes and none of them are fantastic and keeping pitch these days. And boy, 2-3 minutes of awful vocal harmonies would be tough.

Shut your mouth! That song is perfect.

Though it would probably be really boring live. I feel like a lot of my favorite songs don't work too well in a live setting.

Getting the 11 guests to do the spoken word section to show up for a concert to fully capture the song live would be a challenge.  :lol
