Yeah I'd get on that, especially since Epica took their name from a Kamelot album.

I've been a fan since The Black Halo was released.

I was lucky enough to see Kamelot during the Black Halo Tour in 2006 in New York City. It was perhaps the best and most fantastic show I've ever seen. Roy Khan put on an absolutely fantastic performance, and it was really a perfect show with Epica opening and Simone Simmons guest appearing on "The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)." A magical night in NYC.  ;D

I fell mostly out of touch with the metal scene from 2007 to 2011 due to school. It seems I didn't miss much from Kamelot aside from a few good songs from Ghost Opera. Poetry for the Poison could barely maintain my interest. Sad about Roy Khan leaving. He's my favorite singer and best I've ever seen live (and I've seen quite a few great vocalists live).

I'm very interested in the new album "Silverthorn" with new vocalist Tommy Kaverik. I've listened to him with Kamelot and his band Seventh Wonder, and he's a great singer. I think he has the potential to revitalize Kamelot's sound. But I'll miss Roy Khan, of course! Let's face it, he was the heart and soul of Kamelot's music... (Thomas Youngblood is the brain  :P)

Roy's vocals were what really drew me in to Kamelot.  If you need a fix of Roy's vocals from early in his career you could also check out the Finnish prog/metal band Conception

Aren't they from Norway? Wherever they're from, anyway, Khan kicks ass on Conception albums :metal

kirksnosehair

Hmm, yeah, you might be right about where they're from.  Their first album is kinda "meh" but the rest are really good.   Definitely worth getting.

The US symphonic metal band KAMELOT will be releasing their new album Silverthorn October 30th in North America, October 26th in Germany and October 29th in the rest of Europe via Steamhammer/SPV. It will receive its Japanese release October 24th via King Records.

Today the band has unveiled the breathtaking album artwork for Silverthorn. The LP and limited edition will have one version of the art, while the standard version of Silverthorn will have a different but equally exquisite version of the artwork. The standard version is presented as an Ecolbook. The limited edition contains the Ecolbook, a bonus CD with nearly 60 minutes of music, a 44 page book and an exclusive poster. The double LP version is a gatefold on colored vinyl and includes the CD.

Guitarist Thomas Youngblood says of the artwork: "Artist Stefan Heilemann captured the true essence of the story and the main character. The booklet and 44 page book is packed with amazing images!"

Pockets17red

Well, the limited edition will be for me then, as always.  :tup
Also, POSTER!!!

Gadough

Typical album artwork for Kamelot, but that's not a bad thing. It makes me even more excited for the album.

kirksnosehair

I am really, really hoping for a return to form with this one.  "The Black Halo" is the last album Kamelot made that wowed me.  I hope this one is better than "Ghost Opera" and "Poetry for the Poisoned"

MetalMike06

October's looking to be a pretty kickass month for music - Ensiferum, Wintersun, and now Kamelot are all releasing albums during that time.

Also really excited to hear Karevik of course. He was already one of my favorite singers before he joined Kamelot.

I quite like Ghost Opera and Black Halo. The latter actually bored me at first listen but it eventually grew on me. Still haven't really listened to any of their other ones though. What do you guys recommend the most?

kirksnosehair

If you like "The Black Halo," you should get "Epica" because it's actually the first part of the story that is finished in "The Black Halo"

I think "The Fourth Legacy" and "Karma" are very good as well, the rest are a bit hit and miss.

cramx3

I'm interested in what the 60 minutes of music on the bonus disc is.

Well considering they said they had 800? I think people audition for the vocalist spot, then I think the the bonus disk is pretty obvious...

Where's the best place to dive into Kamelot?

Black Halo, Epica or even Karma and The Fourth Legacy.

MykeHavoc

My two suggestions are Black Halo and Karma, as they are my favorites.

If you love those, I'd then suggest Fourth Legacy and Ghost Opera.

Beyond that, Epica is not bad and Poetry for the Poisoned is alright.

Can't really recommend the first three records.

senecadawg2

Yeah, I feel like I have to start getting into them, seeing as how one of my favorite current vocalists is now signed up!

Adami

Sage Pearls or whatever has that song Millennium, right? That's a pretty cool song.

Epica + The Black Halo, by far the best. Work your way outwards from there if you like them, though the quality declines the further away you get from those albums (hopefully this new ablum breaks that trend!).

These are their best 4 recordings, imho.  "Ghost Opera" began a period of decline and "Poetry for the Poisoned" is where they bottomed out.  I also agree that their early recordings are pretty "meh"

Heretic

Who wants to listen to an instrumental version of an album that has Tommy Karevik singing? ???

Yeah, I agree, although it might be cool for aspiring vocalists to try singing the songs.....

Still, I'll probably pass on the special edition if that's what the bonus material is.

The fuck's going on here?

Even neglecting the fact they've already got a song called Solitaire - they've decided to make one part into its own track but conflate the others. And there are four parts, numbered one to three, except part one is really the second part, and--

Are they explicitly trying to mess with OCD-sufferers or something? They might as well have switched from roman numerals to digits halfway through.

wolfking

Why is there an extra song on the instrumental cd called Kismet?

Adami

I agree with both Mr. Webstertonville and Wolfking.

I am very confused by that track listing with the 3 part song.

Also, making us buy an instrumental version of the album just to hear 1 actual bonus song is a really weak move.

Fucking this.  I still don't know if I'll even buy this 2cd edition.

Adami

I also noticed the instrumental disk has a song called Kismet.

Is this a glitch in the press release or are they throwing out an extra instrumental song randomly?

Yeah that was my question in my post.  Especially at track 3 it just seems so randomly placed.

Wiki has Solitaire as a seperate song in the track list;

   2 Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife)
   3 Ashes to Ashes
   4 Torn
   5 Song For Jolee
   6 Veritas
   7 My Confession
   8 Silverthorn
   9 Falling Like The Fahrenheit
   10 Solitaire
   11 Prodigal Son
        Part I: Funerale
Part II: Burden of Shame (The Branding)
        Part III: The Journey
   12 Continuum[4]

Disc 2 - Box Set Edition

   1 Manus Dei (Instrumental)
2 Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife) (Instrumental)
   3 Kismet (Instrumental)
   4 Ashes to Ashes (Instrumental)
   5 Torn (Instrumental)
   6 Song For Jolee (Instrumental)
   7 Veritas (Instrumental)
   8 My Confession (Instrumental)
   9 Silverthorn (Instrumental)
10 Falling Like The Fahrenheit (Instrumental)
   11 Solitaire (Instrumental)
   12 Prodigal Son (Instrumental)
        Part I: Funerale
Part II: Burden of Shame (The Branding)
        Part III: The Journey
   13 Continuum (Instrumental)
   14 Grace (Bonus Track)

That would make a lot more sense, and I hope it is arranged like that.

They've still already got a song called Solitaire, though.

I gotta say again these bonuses are a real let down.  I was hoping for at least a DVD with some studio footage and maybe some decent live vids with Tommy.

robwebster

Though the tracklisting seems better put-together, the wiki page also boasts a copy of the "Silverthorn vynil and 2-CD Box Set cover." Which will be available from all good rocerd stores, presumably.

Eh - better than the Ghost Opera bonuses! Don't know if there was a different edition going about, but mine just had a (very good!) extra track and the video for the title track. Quality might not be amazing, but the quantity's there. More than many special editions.

Oh, and also...

Can't let this go unacknowledged. Brilliant.
