Quote from: Stadler on August 26, 2024, 07:22:52 AMI think those packages only really work for certain bands.  I can see people going to the Winwood show because they know they'll know ten songs between them and have a great time.   Even the Yes Deep Purple show isn't really that.  Both of those bands have legacy fans that WANT to see an 18 minute song from Tales, or the deeper cut from Fireball.

The packages seem to work really well for classic rock bands who probably wouldn't draw huge anymore on their own.  The place was nearly packed the other night for the Doobies/Winwood show (in a venue that holds close to 20,000 people).  It helped that Michael McDonald is from St Louis (he got a MASSIVE applause when each member of the band was introduced), but that is still impressive for two acts not named U2 or The Rolling Stones to be playing pretty much all songs from 35+ years ago, outside of the one new song I think that the Doobies played, and still be playing to that many fans.

It's over. I saw it in my dream. I was listening to the new DT and i was hearing too many references to SFaM, so even though it didn't have a title yet,it IS Met ptIII!

can't argue with that. you wouldn't happen to have a technicolour dreamcoat now would you?
Half of my posts are satire; the other half are serious. If you can't tell which half you're looking at, it's probably the former. I enjoy busting chops amongst likeminded fellows. Where better to feel at home than among the fans of the world's most fun band? :)

Comment to bring this thread back to the top, since it was actually created this year, not in 2010.

Quote from: Stadler on August 22, 2024, 06:44:12 AMI don't know the details, but I do know Sabbath Bloody Sabbath was recorded at Morgan Studios in mid-1973, and Yes was recording Tales From Topographic Oceans in the same studio.
yes and Yes were in one of the studios in the complex Morgan Studios were located in and Rick apparently was so unnerved by what happened during the TFTO sessions that he left for a bit, banged out the keyboard parts on Sabbra Cadabra in one take and then left entirely to play darts and get shitfaced  :lol

Quote from: hunnus2000 on August 25, 2024, 05:42:59 AMI am surprised about 2 things:
1) JR has not scored a movie
2) MP hasn't directed a film, even a short
he did direct Score (as in: the concert film) IIRC.
anyway to get the thread back to the actual topic at hand (somewhat  :lol ), I listened to the interview by Jordan and I didn't include it in the timeline because again I found it too vague to include anything of relevance. Sorry.

If they plan to play at least one new song during the tour, we should be getting something next month, shouldn't we?

I'd be shocked we don't get a single before the tour so I agree, we should be getting a song in a month. But who knows.

I'm itching for something. I haven't been this pumped for a DT release since they announced TA was going to be a 30+ track double concept album.

so, a fan-dividing album ahead?  :lol

Max Kuehnau

yeah I mean it definitely will divide the fan base to some degree (not least because MM isn't in the band anymore and there are fans of him, like myself), and of course, as diverse as DT's discography is, that's bound to happen by virtue of that alone as well

How long until one of the band members becomes the 1,349th musician in the history of popular music to say something along the lines of, "Our new album is our best!"

No one ever tries to sell more records with, "Our new album isn't that good, but please buy it!"  :lol  :lol

Well... Before No More Tears was released I asked Zakk what it was like... His reply... "Typical heavy metal crap!" TRUE STORY.

I would expect nothing less from someone as unhinged and mouthy as Wylde.

I spent a lot of time with him for years and considered him a friend. He was extremely down to earth and yes,a maniac as well, but very playful. Years went by and we lost touch but the memories were epic. The irony is he did not like metal, he played it for fun. He loved Patsy Cline and The Eagles.. His faves. Because of him I spent a lot of time with Ozzy and Tony Dennis, his assistant at that time. Forever grateful.

That seems kind of sad. Why do it if it's not what you love? I guess it paid the bills and we all make those choices in life. I guess his solo stuff was a lot more acoustic at least back in the 90s, so maybe that was his outlet.

Big promises! They've basically entered marketing mode so any possible thing that can be spun positively or talked up will be done and any relevant topic that cannot will be avoided.

I believe he also said JP 'outdid himself' on guitar solos, which is something I don't want to hear as a guitar player because now if JP did not absolutely crush it I will be sad lol.

Which member are you looking forward to hearing his parts the most? For me it's definitely JP. First i expect his second 8 string track, and after that both MP and JR have my hyped up. I remember MP in particular on his cruise in March sitting on the deck and listening to JPs tracks with the headphones and seemed excited with what he was hearing. I want this to be a guitar oriented album so much, and i hope JP will elevate his writing and playing once again!

CraftyCaleb2483

I so wish that this will be a keyboard based album, rather than JP leading and JR sort of following on, writing things that fit with the guitar parts

To take it a step further, I would love for JR's acoustic piano to make an appearance (or three)–a song like "Blind Faith" or "Disappear" would have added some nice breathing room to some of the more recent albums (obviously, not including TA, which is very piano-centric).

One might like the rest of it.  Rihanna or bro-country aren't my thing, but if I got either one of those gigs  I'd take it in a heartbeat. Why not? Travel the world, be with cool people... we know Zakk got close with Ozzy, so there's that too.

That is a good thought too, another thing would be a use of more pads. Korg are known for their lush pads so it would be cool to have some of those in this new album

Oh yeah, I can see especially when you are young and just trying to make it in music. If guitar was your thing, metal was probably the way to make a living when he was coming up. Just a little odd to me that he's stayed in that world since, but you gotta make a living.
