On this new album, an instrumental track would make me pleasure.

If it's on par with Erotomania or Stream of Consciousness, yes please. If not, I don't need it.

Yeah, same here. Instrumental song with a main melody? yes. An LTE song? no.

Whatever happened to that one instrumental they did that was supposed to be like their theme song or whatever for concerts?

The waiting is the hardest part. Each day drags on in this frozen silence, and I find myself longing for a new Dream Theater album more than anything else. The emptiness feels like a song with no end, an aching pause with no resolution. I replay the old albums in my mind, trying to fill the void, but even they are starting to fade like the light in this endless winter. The pain of it claws at my insides, a gnawing hunger that nothing else can satisfy. How much longer must we endure this silence, this painful anticipation? I fear we may be forgotten out here, left with nothing but the echo of what once was.

Yours in longing,
Edward Baynes

It's still on the self-titled album, as far as I know. 😛

False Awakening Suite served as the intro music for the Along For The Ride tour and the 30th Anniversary Mini-Tour.  It hasn't been heard from since. Granted, it didn't make sense for what they did with The Astonishing.

Was that False Awakening Suite?
EDIT: Already been said!

It's a good song, a really nice intro for the album, but you will always fail if you aim intentionally to create something as a trademark for the band to open every show. They already did Overture 1928, if they wanted a song for that. There wasn't any need for a False Awaken Suite.

But False Awakening suite is so much better than Overture 1928, so that's probably why they did it!

I think the album is probably done by now, but since the solo album from JR will be out in 3 days, they don't want to steal anything from it.
My prediction is that the earliest they will release any info for DT16 will probably be around mid September.
And then they will turn their mode to touring exclusively.

DT are not holding anything for JR's solo album. If anything it would be the other way around.

Let's be honest, JR's solo album is not going to set the world on fire or interfere with DT's sales or marketing in any significant way.

But False Awakenings Suite was meant to be the intro tape song. Whenever Overture 1928 is in the set, they actually play it. FAS was never meant to be played as far as I recall, just to serve as the standard intro tape like Metallica always have Ecstasy of Gold. But they immediately went back to picking random orchestral pieces from various artists.

Right, and AFAIK, they've never actually performed "False Awakening Suite" live, same with the "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" Overture, unless you count the one time the orchestra played it at RCMH for the Score show. Wasn't that Overture always done as an intro tape prior to the band coming in for "About To Crash"?

I agree and Overture 1928 be played only as an intro tape could be very frustating. But my point was to have some kind of a show intro that was really remarkable  and gets the crowd excited  in atencipation for the show. I guess an orchestral version of Overture 1928 could do this very effectively.

I think the videos they typically do after the intro tape handles this pretty well

I don't recall it ever being expressed that this was the case, but obviously that's what it's ended up being. Not sure if that was the original intention or if that's they decided upon when they were rehearsing the song - perhaps they/JR realized it would just be too difficult to pull off live.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

I imagine the same scenarii than you, for next weeks.

Around Sept 20th, a month before tour starts, seems like a good deal. Boosting tickets sales, getting people even more excited etc.

That's possible too. We can perhaps hope a first album's track, before the beginning tour.

i just hope that when they release the tracklist, it also includes songlengths

Agreed, but at this point I'd be content with only the tracklist :lol

Adami

As much as I am sick to my stomach to do so, I have to agree with Stadler about track lengths. The idea that long songers are better or more exciting simply because they're long is not something I can at all connect to.

10 songs of 5 minutes, or 4 songs of 20 minutes each, or 1 70 minute song, or whatever. None of it matters. Bad songs can be short, long, or middle length and so can good songs.

It's common sense.
