Some of the brosnan bond movies were fine. Some of them were completely fucking ridiculous.

HEY LETS HAVE HIM WIND SURF ON A TSUNAMI ON A ROCKET CARS WINDSHIELD WHILE BEING CHASED BY A SPACE LASER

Look, all Bond movies have their lol-worthy moments.  Craig's Bond learning to be a world-class Texas Hold Em player in a matter of hours, and winning when he absolutely has to?

They specifically say that he was chosen because he had a reputation in the service as a fantastic player.

hhhmmmm don't remember that part.  Not disputing, because I can't even remember what I did on the weekend.

Many Bond-movies have silly moments, but I think it escalated with Brosnan, somewhere around "The World is not Enough", and then the awful "Die Another Die". What I like the most about Craig's movies is that they are more realistic. The gadgets will always be connected with Bond, but I don't think it's AS over the top now, as it was before. The scene Sigz mentioned is only one of the big lols of the latter Brosnan-era. What about the car that is actually invisible? I don't care if it will be possible in 100 years, but in the movie it's just silly.  :lol

Super Dude

Yes, as a Brosnan fan I will still admit that Die Another Day was jaw-droppingly bad.

Ted exceeded my expectations. So funny

I was so close to walking out of the theater during that movie.

and as far as the Bronson era goes:

Goldeneye- Favorite Bond film
Tomorrow Never Dies- liked it
The World is not enough- liked it
Die Another Day - Hated it

You know, I only remember on Brosnan film, Goldeneye.  By the sounds of it, it's was a good place to stop.

What are everyone's thoughts about the Total Recall remake? At first I was pretty meh about it, but it actually looks alright. At the very least, I'll be happy to see the story told in a more cyberpunk-y world, even if it's still not a whole like the original story.

On that note, *supposedly* they're supposed to start filming the Neuromancer movie this year, but I haven't heard any news about it actually starting  :sadpanda:

The King in Crimson

Hasn't Neuromancer been in development hell for like... forever?

It's good that the new Total Recall isn't going to be much like the original, otherwise, what's the point of a remake?  The camp-tastic original will always be there for when I want it and hey, the new one might be good too.

MetalJunkie

Does it qualify as a remake since it's just another interpretation of the book? It's basically a remake in the same sense that True Grit was.

Either way, it looks pretty cool.

It was, but last news was that the Splice director and Mila Jovovich were signed to it, set to film this year. I haven't heard anything about it in probably a year though :/

Probably not.

I mean, I'm a huge PKD fan, and the version looks a lot closer to how I pictured things than the original in terms of visuals, but I wish they'd stop trying to turn his stories in action flicks.

Zantera

The new Total Recall might actually be alright. But nothing will ever top "CYA AT THE PARTY RICHTER!" or any other classic Arnold quote from the original.

MetalJunkie

I hope the woman with three boobs has a cameo appearance.

At first I was like  ::) with Recall, but after the first trailer a few months ago, I did a 180.  I can't wait to see this.  Looks good.  I'm just hoping I haven't built up my expectations too much.

Plus, Kate Beckinsale + Jessica Biel = massive win.  Two of my favorite hotties.

Just watched Casino for the first time in a long time. A lot of people prefer Goodfellas, but man do I love Casino.

Saw The Sting for the first time ever just recently on TCM. Very enjoyable but I wasn't surprised with the twist at all

Orbert

Which one?  There were at least three or four towards the end.

I pretty much suspected that FBI agent was one of their guys

Orbert

I first saw The Sting when I was 12 years old, and all of the twists got me.  I still enjoy them.

Special Agent Polk was fun.  I never suspected, although Gondorf did say that they were gonna have to do something about the guy tailing Hooker.  This was their solution.

The whole thing with Salino.  I never suspected that it was the girl from the diner.  We're meant to assume that it's the mysterious guy with the gloves.

"I said PLACE it on Lucky Dan.  That horse is gonna finish second!"

Gondorf shooting Hooker, then the cops shooting Gondorf, was not really a twist I guess, since you had to figure that the two main guys weren't gonna die at the end of a comedy, but still a great WTF moment.

I've seen The Sting probably 20 times over the years.  I still think it's a great movie.  All of those twists actually make perfect sense upon repeat viewings; most are telegraphed, once you know what to look for, but that's part of the fun.

I still don't understand what Quantum of Solace was about. I don't know if I need to rewatch that and Casino Royale or what.

From an interview with Daniel Craig, it seems that, because of a writers' strike, he and the director basically wrote QoS as they went along.

On a side note, nobody does M better than Dench. Also the Q scene in GoldenEye is really fucking funny (in case y'all haven't figured it out, first time watching the movie).

Yeah, I love how they don't even free him. They just wheel him away.

OK, here's a nice little fridge question (SPOILERS for those who care): how the hell does 006's fall not instantly kill him?

Finally got around to watching The Prestige and quite a damn fine film if I do say so myself.

It really kept me guessing the whole time.

There's a metaphor/theme in the film that I noticed, which I think is very brilliant. Its that The path of revenge only leads to self-destruction. Since Jackman was literally killing himself to get revenge on Christina Bale.

senecadawg2

I didn't like the Prestige, in fact... I disliked the Prestige.

In other news, I just finished watching the LOTR trilogy for the 15th time. What a classic, and a great way to get pumped for the Hobbit in December.

The King in Crimson

I liked The Prestige (Bowie as Tesla = class) but the 'twist' (well, one of them) is fucking stupid.

In other news, I just watched Children of Men again and it's still one of my favorite movies ever.
