I was looking at their Wiki page and it looks like they have more past members than King Crimson.

Taylor Swift.  Love her songwriting.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but I think 1989 is going to go down as one of the greatest pop albums ever.  That record is strong from top to bottom, and some of those singles...  she's the Michael Jackson of this generation, in my opinion.

yeah, I'm sure Taylor Swift will write a song as good as Earth Song, lol.

Sorry, but to me Janelle Monae and Kimbra have more talent in their baby toes than Taylor Swift will ever dream to have.

He's talking pop sensibility, Not Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.  Re read what Stadler said.

Mainstream?  Top 40 mainstream?  I'm asking because I don't know.  I'd rather hear interesting pop but I get where Stadler was coming from.

Clandestine. Sadly I think they broke up, but they were a cool prog-rock/metal female fronted band with some pop tendencies.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj5o_l8bOEM

That song is more straight forward but has some prog elements around the 3 minute mark.

Never met a fellow fan before! I really wish they made more than one album.

It had a few good songs, but it really didn't work for me as a whole personally. Now Carly Rae Jepsen's Emotion I think is one of the best pop albums to come out in a while.

Based on a lot of recent posts, I'd say Dream Theater.

They're the band that got discovered in an LA bar by a Titanic director to become the party band in the movie.

They are the hardest working celtic band these days. They're out with a new album every year with nonstop touring. The quality of their music is incredible. They're able to write completely original material that sounds like traditional celtic, but with modern lyrics and tone.

Incredible band.

Honestly?   I'll take Swift's songs any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.   I defy anyone here - who's being honest, that is - to NEVER ONCE EVER have felt that feeling in Wildest Dreams.  That girl (for me) in high school or college that you might have had a passing thing once, and even though it might not ever happen again, you just hope that they think of you in "that way".

I know it's tre hip to rag on her for being "pop" and all, but you cannot tell me that Kate Bush wouldn't LOVE to connect to people the way Taylor Swift does.  She's got a talent, even if it doesn't resonate with any one person for whatever reason.

Still going strong. Their 6th album came out not long ago and it was great.

My favourite is still " II ".

The Presidents Of The United States
II
Freaked Out & Small ( an oddity - basically an online only album and they used all regular instruments )

Kingston Wall

A progressive rock band from my home country of Finland. They made 3 masterpiece-level albums in the early 90's, but their singer/guitarist committed suicide shortly after that.

They were never popular back in the day, but have a bit of a cult following now.

a) Definitely not sarcastic about Taylor Swift.  I am a bona fide stan when it comes to her music.  I got up an hour early on the day 1989 came out so I could buy the physical CD special edition at Target on my way to work.

b) YES to everyone who's mentioned CRJ's Emotion.  That is a killer album!  A more unified effort than Swift's latest, if I'm being honest.  Yo, get the bonus tracks edition.  (As a general rule, always get the bonus tracks edition.)

It's only the second or third time I've listened to it. I LOVE Dummy as my older brother used to play it to death back in the mid '90's when I was a kid. Only recently got back in to them so a bit early to have any favourites on Portishead yet. I've also started listening to Massive Attack. My girlfriend is a big fan and we went to see them in London about 3 weeks ago. They put on a hell of a show.

Well, The Downward Spiral is one of my most favourite albums ever (I love Closer and The Becoming), so there`s that. With Teeth is also great and The Slip is fine I guess. Haven`t heard the other albums yet.

Massive Attack is ruined for me for two reasons, both nonsensical when typed out in public like this:

One, they did the theme song for the show House; it was quite a while later that I realized there were words/vocals in the song.  I loved the instrumental bit that served as the show's theme, but the vocals were not to my liking.  Strike one.

Two, around the time of... I want to say Marillion.com, and into Anoraknophobia, Mark Kelly started taking to saying that they were more than a "prog" band, and began comparing some of their work to Massive Attack.  I even think that one of the working titles from the era - I want to say "House", but that could be my brain making a connection that isn't there; see above - was "Massive Attack Song".   As that is my least favorite - by a LONG way - work by Marillion, it has a sour taste in my mouth.

But, fair play, nothing ACTUALLY to do with the band or it's music.

I do like Seven Nations! They're like the Dave Matthews Band of Celtic Pop. I saw them in 2005 (I think) with Great Big Sea in Boston. I thought they were top notch.

I'm probably the only fan of Enya. And I'm 100% serious. I heard Orinoco Flow when I was 5 on the radio and have loved her ever since. It's impressive that she's so popular while being so recluse. She also plays all her own instruments, and overdubs herself so many times to create that ethereal sound.
I don’t know what to put here anymore
