Always fun seeing where the conversation turned to on this thread 😂

this is a very common thing here (and it's bound to happen anytime there aren't any news to report)

I feel like we are getting close to getting info about the album. They put out the vinyl box set yesterday, and JP came out the same day promoting another bourbon testing for just a couple of weeks from now. He must have some time freed up. I think this could be the beginnings of the promo cycle. Of course, I don't know anything, or anyone, so it could just be my wishful and too much thinking. ..And then of course we heard from Bosk  :heart

illusionist

I don't know if it makes sense for them to announce the album, with song names, lengths and the cover art, if they plan to release the whole thing in 4,5,6 months time.
But then again i don't know if it makes sense not to announce anything untill the end of the tour in late December, either.
It would be interesting once the promo interviews begin, to know what their thoughts were on when to release the album and what were their alternatives.

I'm thinking they release a single alongside album information late sept/early oct. US tour announcement along with 2nd single (if 2nd single is planned) late Oct/Eary Nov, and album release in January/Feb 2025. That seems like a fair timeline...

gzarruk

If they plan to release the album as early as January next year, we should be getting info during the time between the start of Sept. and a little before the tour begins in October.

If the plan is to sit on the finished album for a while and release it mid-2025 (really hope not), then I wouldn't expect any major updates to drop this year... BUT they could always release a standalone single to hype things up for the tour and give little or no album context until they're ready for the full promotional cycle to begin next year (unless it's a concept album and they don't want to spoil things earlier).

IMO, the former is more likely to happen than the latter, but this new album cycle has been really weird/unusual with DT's usual MO, so what do I really know? :lol

This wouldn't make any sense to me. You would think with all the excitement of having Portnoy back they would want to get the album released and tour started as soon as possible. Ride that wave of excitement for as long as possible.

I agree! I was even expecting them to do a short pre-tour run in the summer, but that never happened.

HOF

Jordan is speaking in generalities here, but I kind of feel like this statement from that recent interview suggests it won't be another 8 months, but maybe early 2025.

QuoteRudess added: "I think everybody's gonna love this [new album]. I can pretty much guarantee it. We don't mess around. We're not people who take what we do lightly. We're really serious. We stay there and we work on things until they're absolutely right and until everybody thinks that, 'Okay, this is really great.' So I have a feeling that all the DREAM THEATER fans around the world, they're in for a really big treat. And, of course, you know, they're gonna have something to listen to, 'cause on September 6th, 'Permission To Fly' comes out. And they'll have that to listen to while they wait for the DREAM THEATER album. And there's no official announced release date yet, but they will have a little time to wait and sink their heads into some good prog and go on the Jordan ride while they wait for this what I think is forming to be an exceptional DREAM THEATER album."
