Samsara

#42
For me, here is a 10-song wish list:

Ytsejam
Another Day
6:00
Lie
Eve
Space Dye Vest (I know, I know, but it's a WISH list)
Speak to Me
Anna Lee
Trial of Tears (never gets old)
In the Name of God
A Change of Seasons

emindead

"Learning to Live". I have to see my favourite song in the world played live. Listening only the intro gave me blue balls.

Responding to Samsara's list because he tends to put together thought-provoking responses to things:

"Ytsejam" - I like it, but I'm not dying to hear it.  I wouldn't be upset if they played it, but I wouldn't request it myself.
"Another Day" - Do not want.  Not a very good song, and even if you like the song as it is, every live version I've ever heard has been bad.  James can't sing this song properly in a live setting, which is not a knock on him--it's just too hard to sing well.
"6:00" - Want!  Good song, and I would expect that it would be great live.  Not played much (if at all) since the SDOIT tour.
"Lie" - Want!  Good song, and I would expect that it would be great live.  Haven't seen it an would very much like to.
"Space Dye Vest (I know, I know, but it's a WISH list)" - You know how much I hate the song.  I would never request it.  But if they did play it, I would be happy for the fans who are dying to hear it and I think it would be reasonably good live.
"Speak to Me" - Hmmm...Woiuldn't mind hearing this.
"Anna Lee" - Pretty song.  On my list as well.  Would love to see it.
"Trial of Tears (never gets old)" - Yes, it's a great song, but I've seen it enough, to be honest.  I'd rather that time in the set be conserved for something I really want to hear.
"In the Name of God" - Good song.  Since I saw it on the TOT tour and it is on L@B, there are certainly other songs I'd prefer to see in a live setting.  But I would enjoy it if they played it.
"A Change of Seasons" - My third favorite.  How could I not love it if they played it?

There is a lot from Awake that is on my wishlist:

6:00
Caught In A Web
LSOAD
Lie
The Mirror

I would also love:
Wait For Sleep
Learning To Live
Anna Lee
Home
The Glass Prison
These Walls
Octavarium
Forsaken
A Nightmare To Remember (I know it's been done a lot, but I didn't see the PN tour)
The Count of Tusdany (same)
The Shattered Fortress (rather than see the entire 12 step suite, I would be really happy if they only played TGP and seggued into TSF at the end)

Eh? it's just a list. No thought provoking response required.  lol. I added "eve." deal with it.  :)

It was just the most interesting list I had seen, so I thought I'd respond to each item.

Perpetual Change

I really want Dream Theater do something similar to Yes' "Masterworks" set, i.e. play the epics and classics.

--Set 1--
Metropolis
Learning to Live
A Mind Beside Itself
A Change of Seasons

--Set 2--
Trail of Tears
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Octavarium

--Encore--
The Count of Tuscany
The Spirit Carries On

Sounds like quite the "Evening With..." show in my opinion.

Wait, I thought YOU were "Quite Interesting" like your BdR text line says.   :lol

I'm just busting your chops anyway.

For a DVD, though, my set would look something like...
1. The Glass Prison
2. These Walls
3. Misunderstood
4. A Rite of Passage
5. The Mirror /
6. Lie
7. Just Let Me Breathe
8. Finally Free
---
9. Take the Time
10. Cover My Eyes
11. Light Fuse and Get Away
12. Through My Words /
13. Fatal Tragedy
14. Caught in a Web
15. Stream of Consciousness
16. The Count of Tuscany
---
17. 6:00
18. The Spirit Carries On

I'm not entirely convinced I'm happy with this. It feels a bit "off." But there's a lot of good, and surprising songs on there. I quite like the slightly different encore.

The songs I'm itching to see are Stream of Consciousness, These Walls, 6:00, Take the Time, Lie, Finally Free, Prophets of War, and so on. I'm sure there's more. I'm staggered that I've not seen Take the Time yet.

4. 12 steps suite

I have to admit, if I knew beforehand that they would play it, I would probably skip that concert. There's been good sections in each song, but overall I always thought it was a too drawn-out effort.

The Master of Puppets was the coup de gras.  When I saw them on that tour in SF at the Warfield, They played about an hour long set, took a break, played Six Degrees, took a break, played Home and then covered Master of Puppets.  Way up on my list of best shows ever, and I've seen a lot of shows.
I still would sacrifice one, and maybe two, testicles to see them play Wait For Sleep/Learning To Live.  And a complete CoS would be cool too.  When I saw them do that on the FoI tour, they broke it up into three parts throughout the show.

Luckily Mangini erasure is inevitable
Half of my posts are satire; the other half are serious. If you can't tell which half you're looking at, it's probably the former. I enjoy busting chops amongst likeminded fellows. Where better to feel at home than among the fans of the world's most fun band? :)
